Sounds like the Floats in the Carburetor are stuck causing the Needle Valve to be stuck in the open position.
(OR the floats have failed. Replace them.)
This will happen if the bike has not been run in a while. The gas goes bad and gums up the Carb. The carb needs to be taken off & disassembled and cleaned with a suitable cleaner like B-12 from auto parts dealer. When gas goes bad, it has a distinct smell.

SOURCE: yz 250 wont kick start

Hi andersondts.

To get you right there i believe it should read as 'jump' start and not 'bump' start ...:-)
Well the problem could be with the battery, is it a maintenance free (dry) or is it a wet 0ne (uses sulphuric acid specific gravity 1250).
( 1) How old is the battery?
( 2) If its a wet one ,check the specific gravity of the acid in it, if its low thn charge it.You may hve to add or top up to its required level , if so thn use distilled water only !
( 3) If the battery is more thn 17months old ...replace it.
( 4) Its not bad to get the charging rate of your bike to make sure that it is working properly as required.

I hope this will help.
GOOD -LUCK.

Knight.

My yz 250 will start with a roll start,but I can't

Not sure of the age of your YZ 250 ( You never said!) but in most Yamaha they use dual stage stator which means a stator will charge a spark plug at two speeds one on kick starter speed and the other on running speeds it is common that the low speed circuit on the stator to fail leaving you with a bike that only starts when pushed its a very simple test to diagnose it be worth checking you have spark on kick starter speeds with spark plug out the motor but still connected

2004 YZ 250 is leaking fluid out of the hole just behind water pump underneath the crankcase. The gasket looks fine and its not leaking from the gasket its actually coming out of the hole. I started...

The hole is a weep hole, designed to drain coolant from water pump seal leakage or oil from bearing seal leakage from contaminating either system. So one of the seals is leaking, and you should rebuild the pump.
Looking at the parts diagram it appears the impeller is threaded onto the shaft on the YZ250....hope that helps, heres the parts diagram

My engine races upon starting, as if my throttle sticks. What gives? It is an 03 YZ 250

probaby settels down after it warms up a bit :-) pull the carb off and check for a cracked reed valve clasic problem with the old boyseen dual layered valves.
if not check that the carb is well sealed in the neck going into the engine a little air leak will give the engine a runaway effect
ride safe Good Luck
