Color codes harleys

If you're simply replacing the controls with other controls, the color coding of the wires should be the same. Simply unplug the old wire from the plug and insert the same color wire from the new set. Now, if you're trying to install a later set of switches on an earlier model bike, you need a wiring diagram of BOTH the new switches and the old bike so you can figure out the color codes on the wires.

Hello, From my experence with most Motorcycles the Color Code is Not Easily Available to find like most Cars (under the Hood or in the Door Jam). I have Noticed on "All" Harleys and Some *** Bikes there is a "Label" with the Paint "Color Name" under the Fuel Tank. Also All Motorcycle Dealers have a "Paint Code Book" that lists All of the Painted Parts with the Colors by: Year, Make and Model. For Example: in 1997 Harleys used "States Blue Pearl" and in 2002 Harleys used "Luxury Blue" and 2005 Harleys used "Rich Sunglo Blue" & "Chopper Blue". So if you can't find a "Paint Label" on your bike? you shoud be able to call you Local Yamaha Dealers Parts Dept. and give him your: Year, Make & Model and he can tell you over the phone the Name of the Color of you Paint. Also "PPG" who is one of the Largest Mfg's of Automotive Paint also has a Computer listing of most Motorcycle Paints and can mix some up for you. on the case bearings the colors denote the oversize on each bearing and you should call your local dealership for the current color codes

On the handlebar switches, Harley hasn't changed the color code scheme very much over the years but you really need a good schematic to know exactly how they are wired up. If you can find either a Harley service manual for a 96 model or a Clymer's manual, it would be helpful. I have a schmatic for a 94 FXDWG that should be alright for your 93 FXR but you need a schmatic for a 96 model bike.

a paint shop should be able to mix it up for you if you have the colour name.... good paint shops will have the codes
