There should be no slack!, add tension until there is no noise when hot, or no play when loose. Do not over tighten it. with manual tension-er once it stops back it up and tighten the jam nut

SOURCE: timing chain 110 hymoto pit bike

Put the piston at TDC (Top Dead Center) by lining up the timing marks on the flywheel and stator. Put the cylinder head back together with the cam installed so the high points of the cam lobes are pointing kind of downward. Pull the cam chain taught on the front side of the engine. Put the chain on the cam gear such that, when bolted to the cam, the index mark or marks are in the proper position.

The proper position depends on what markings are on the cam. Some bikes have a single mark; an arrow, a straight line or an "O". The mark should line up with the center-line of the crankshaft. If the cam has two marks opposite each other, the lines should be parallel with the gasket surface. You will need to rotate the unbolted cam left or right just a bit in order to match up the bolt holes to the gear holes.

SOURCE: I have a 2009 CRF 230F. What size socket do I

It will be a metric size. The standard sizes are 13,14,17 and 19mm. The manuals will not say what size. Or just use a crescent wrench.

SOURCE: i have a crf 230f, and if i take the baffles out

it can make the engine run very lean, this can cause piston damage, suggest you modify the fuel system to deliver more fuel.

How do you tighten the timing chain on a crf 230f dirtbike its an 08 model

There is no way to tighten chain, there is a spring or plastic tensioner that keeps chain in place.2003 if you have done a lot of riding it may be time for new one.you need to change chain, tensioner if thereis one,and the plastic chain slide that chain rides on.Good Luck.

I got a crf100 05 and is wondering how to tighten the timing chain because it is loose?

If the chain is loose then you need to replace the chain the adjuster is automatic so you cant adj the tension but you do need to ck the guide some times the guide is worn where the adjuster pushes on the guide so if the guide is good then replace the chain but look close at the guide first that will wear out before the chain will strech most of the time let me know what happens thanks Don 678 768 2732

Bike is a 2005crf250x. Need timing chain slack.

Lift the chain with one finger then turn the crankshaft several full turns by hand. Inspect the full length of the chain during rotation. Any obvious damage? Does the chain revolve smoothly around your finger? If all seems okay then the problem is probably not in the lower end. Some chains are continuous and do not have a master link. Some do have a master link. If you have a master link then separate the chain by removing the link then place both ends of the chain onto the cam sprocket and reconnect the link. If you have a continuous chain I would need to see first hand what is going on. In any event, be certain the timing marks on the flywheel and overhead cam are correctly lined up during installation.
