Check the clutch, neutral and side stand safety interlocks. Double check that the bike is in neutral, and the clutch is pulled in when trying to start the bike. If the bike is in gear with the side stand down, the bike cuts off all ignition. If the clutch isn't pulled in, the starter won't engage. Check all these safety interlock switches, and make sure you are in neutral with the clutch in when trying to start the bike.
HI, AS YOU SAID THIS IS A MAGNETIC SWITCH, SO IN THEORY WHEN YOU PRESS THE START BUTTON THE SWITCH SIDE OF THE RELAY OPENS THE CIRCUIT AND ALLOWS 12VOLT DC TO PASS THROUGH TO THE STARTER THERE IS NO CORRECT WAY TO FIT THE CABLE, FIRST FIT THE BATTERY POSS LEAD TO THE RELAY CHECK THE CABLE FITS CORRECTLY AND IS NOT TAUGHT AND DOES NOT RESTRICT ANY OTHER PARTS FROM BEING FITTED,SECONDLY FIT THE STARTER SIDE CABLE TO THE RELAY, THE ABOVE TASK SHOULD BE COMPLETED WITH THE BATTERY NEGATIVE CABLE REMOVED FROM THE BATTERY, THUS THE NEG SHOULD BE REPLACED AFTER THE POSS SIDE TO MINIMISE THE RISK OF SHORT CIRCUIT, CHECK BATTERY HAS SUFFICIANT CHARGE.
HAVE YOU TRIED BYPASSING THE RELAY BY CONNECTING THE STARTER SIDE AN D THE BATTERY CABLE TOGETHER THIS SHOULD TURN OVER THE ENGINE, WITH THE KEY ON THE BIKE MAY START, IF IT DOES NOT START, SOMETHING MAY BE CLOSING THE CIRCUIT LIKE A SIDE STAND SWITCH, CLUTCH LEVER SWITCH, ENGINE CUT OFF SWITCH,OR AN ALARM IF THE BIKE HAS AN IMOBILISER FITTED, REMEMBER TO MAKE SURE YOUR PROP STAND IS FULLY UP, TRY HOLDING IN THE CLUTCH LEVER, HOPE THIS HELPS
It sounds like the kick stand switch is not working or working real good. Did you mess with the switch? Or did you buy it like that? Somebody messed with and did it wrong. When the kick stand is down, the bike goes in gear it shuts off, That is how it is supposed to work. Mine was wired up and you would not believe how many times I took off with the stand down and almost killed myself. I got a new bike and left the switch alone. I know they make special switches for the wires to be cut and relocated, I don't know if you can find one on ebay or not, but I would get under there and check to see if any wires are hanging down. Hope this helps.
Check your fuse box for dirty connections or corrosion around the fuses. Check the engine cut off switch (rock it back and forth a few times), side stand safety switch of so equipped, clean the battery terminals and cables. Ride Safely, Ed
Check the battery is fully charged for a start. Secondly i would test the starter solenoid usually found under the seat, it is identified as a square box with 2 large leads and 2 smaller wires. one of the large leads go down to starter, the other goes up to battery. very carefully cross these out, ensuring the bike is in NEUTRAL before hand. The engine should turn. If all this still fails, replace starter.
new spark plugs also tested that coil is sparking side stand is not down and it does have fuel. Can anyone help me with Cagiva River 500 starting prob?separate the multi plug that the sidestand switch connect to and use a small piece of wire to bridge one side to the other......if the bike spins over then at least that's one problem area fathomed out. If the bike fails to spin check the main fuse that sits in the starter solenoid, this can be found by tracing the pos wire from the battery back to the next place it bolts too, this is the starter relay. On this is usually about a 30amp fuse, check it hasn't blown as its the first to go pop usually.,,,
