you maybe right unscrew and reset it by rolling the front wheel.the cable will not seat sometimes.

check shifting pawl on shifting drum

check gas cap to see if it's bad check to see if it's vapor locking

why i dont no but try this (if they are not worn out) lightly file or grind the top outer edge all around at and angle to take the sharp corner of them I BET A COLD ONE IT WORKS

it maybe sucking air around intake boots

sitting on bike 1st on our left

check fork tube for seal leakage

sound ok to me but check battery to see if it's ok

check compression you may need a ring job

with bike sitting take gas cap off to see how long it run. if it keeps running try a new gas cap if not that,maybe vapor locking

check crank seals and bearing

check clutch and side stand safety switch

make sure fuse has a tight fit check for a blown headlight,taillight,or signal light

fuel pump or gas cap

start at starter work your way back to the battery. starter has problem or wire from starter going to solenoid grounded

starter button sticking or bad relay

check carb. manifold booth for proper seal maybe sucking air

warm engine up if possible. remove two drain plug in oil pan, remove front radiator plastic. to get to oil filter.remove replace with new one. replace plug.replace proper amount of oil, crank engine check for oil leaks. replace plastic.

The spring must be "wound" to be tight and make the kickstart lever return..
