Battery will not hold a charge--stator checks out ok--regulator rectifier ok, too any suggestions?

If you have had your battery load tested and it checks out fine there is a likely hood that you have something staying on. With the key in the off position, disconnect your negative battery lead and look/listen for an arc as you pull the lead away from the battery terminal. If you get an arc the next step will be to track down what is staying on. Good luck and happy hunting.

It first turns off the headlight, then it activates the starter solenoid. When your fuses, battery, wiring. and wiring connections are good usually you are dealing with a bad button/switch.

Sounds like you have a seized engine. If it is seized with age, pour copius amounts of oil in through the spark plug holes and leave to soak for a few days. That will help with seized pistons. If it is bottom end, strip the engine down and repair as required.

How do I check the coolant level on a Honda VT 500

With the engine cold, take off the radiator cap under the tank and make sure it is full to the top. Then check that the overflow bottle down by your foot, is full to the full line. Use only anti freeze that is non-silica formula (no rust scrubbing particles). Regular anti freeze will shorten the life of your water pump by damaging the ceramic washer in the seal.

the carb is clogged up. You will have to remove the float bowl and clean the jets. use spray carb cleaner. Use a very fine copper wire strand to probe the jets--do not scratch or englarge. Empty all the gas out of the bike including fuel lines. use fresh fuel. Be sure to count the number of turns you make on any adjustment screw and write them down. This will make it much easier to put back together in proper adjustment.
