O2 voltage starts at450 mv continues to climb to 1150mv as engine warms and goes into closed loop. the engine starts to run rich and check engine light comes on rick exhaust i disconnected o2 sensor and engine runs smoother

the truck runs ok hot or cold with o2 disconnected. for cylinder balance test i have no way of killing each cylinder other than removing one plug wire at a time .

did cylinder balance test number 5 no ignition found broken reluctor tooth replaced distributor .did compression test 155psi to 170 psi cranking vacumn test 5-5 1/2 in and steady.same problem. o2 crosscounts go to 250 then back to 0. integrator values start at 128 drops to 41 as engine warms up and goes to closed loop. could it be a bad prom?

fuel pressure 13 psi at idle prom is stock updated number according to dealer timing 0 degrees with inline connector disconnected does not seemed to haved jumper timing

When the engine starts the O2 sensor volts should be around .5 volts or 500mv so the 450mv is correct now i don't know wither your next statement is 115mv of 1150 mv it makes a big difference, so get back with me and i will see what i can do for you.

the 1 volt at the O2 ( 1000mv ) is rich so the sensor is working it is telling the on-board computer that the exhust is rich, now lets find out why it rich.....ist things 1st lets make sure that we just dont have an engine problem, a miss fire could cause thes problem, so is it hittion on all cylinders? do you know how to do a cylinder balance test? that would be the place to start. get back with me if you need to know how to do the test. or if you know how then get back to me with the test resaults. and we will go from there.

when you un-hook the O2 sensor you are putting the truck in open loop when in open loop the fuel system is not a feed back system any more so it just runs on a pre-programed program that was instaled in the ECM at the factory. if all you have is the plug wires then use them hold the engine rpm at a stedy speed and start removing plug wies one at a time and make sure each cylinder dropes the same rpm or with in 5% of each other.

does it have a high performance prom? it might be the prom it would be rair the prom is the programable read only memory it is used for all the base lines on the ecm things like cold start up open loop operation base timming max timming advance...ect. have you checked the base timming? also have you check the valve timming? the engine is rich the block learn is slowing the injection pulse trying to lean the engine, and it is unable to either because there is to much fuel going in the engine, or the fuel is not being completly burned. make sure the engine is runing on all cylinders and is in time both valve and base timing ( base timing is with the computer in timming set mode ) get a fuel pressure test and lets see wear its at.

13 is good, try this unplug one injector and see if the block learn goes the other way. up not down that will tell us if its a dillevery problem or a cumbustion problem.

I have a 1988 chevy cavalair station wagon that runs fine until it gets warmed up than you stop at red light it shuts off it starts right back up again until put in gear than it turns off again

I have to ask, how long since a tune-up? Can you check for applicable trouble codes, if there are any?
Maybe it runs ok in open loop, open loop doesn't use the 02 signal until it warms up? Closed loop dies use the 02 signal. Changing the 02 sensor is part of a tune-up.
With idle issues, clean the throttle body and any small idle air passages. Check and clean the idle air valve. Check anything that has to do with air flow.

My engine runs fine when cold for the first minute, then stalls and runs rich for 15 minutes before running fine when warm

How long since a tune-up?
Are there any applicable trouble codes?
Your year--make--model didn't post for some reason? Open loop doesn't use the 02 sensor input, closed loop does. I don't know if replacing 02 sensors will help? That is park of a tune-up. Also, use a gage and check proper fuel pressure. Some makes and models, the fuel pressure will hold for a bit, with everything off, if it drops like a rock, you have a pressure leak, depending on the vehicle.

1994 thunderbird lx rough cold starts warmed up runs fine alot of parts replaced new plugs and wires

You may have dirty fuel injectors - once the engine warms up and goes to closed-loop operation, the computer can compensate for clogged injectors to some extent. Another possibility is sticky valve lifters that work better once the oil gets hot - if this is the case you may hear a rhythmic tapping noise in the valve train at idle while the engine is cold.

I have 2002 chevy avalanche, check engine light comes on only when its cold & runs rough at idle. When warmer weather light goes off & runs fine. Have replaced mass air flow sensor.

Mine did the same thing...at 42F degrees, run bad. After it warm up, it would be fine. This would only happen in the winter. It would throw a code saying it was lean in Bank 1 or 2.
The issue is a contraction of the intake gasket due to the cold weather, when it contracts, it leaks air. There is a new, improved gasket now from GM, or get a Felpro from major auto stores and it will work fine. I consistently had the problem every winter, and this has fixed the problem for the last 3-4 years.

Could a bad o2 sensor on my 98 grand prix gtp cause the car to idle higher than normal at times. It started happening more since the temps have gottin hotter.

What your ssying does not make since so let me explain how it works, the 02 works like this when cold in the morning when the car first starts the car is in open loop meaning that it will run rich until the engine has reached operating temprature, once it has it goes into closed loop meaning the 02 sensor now determines the pulse width of the injector opening or how much fuel to give the car under all driving condtions, if one of the 02 sensors goes bad the computer goes into open loop giving the car the same amount of fuel as if it were a cold engine, (running Rich) if it was to lean out the car it is possible to make the engine run hotter because a lean engine causes the car to run hot, so at that pointthe EGR valve steps in and puts inert gas into the intake chamber (Exhaust Gas) since this won't burn it it makes the fuel mixture lean this can cause the temprature to rise slightly but not enought to over heat. A plugged catalitic converter can cause it to over heat and so can a fan not functioning right can cause itto over heat but not the 02 senor it has a limited range of fuel adjustment, and if it was bad it would actually run cooler because the fuel mix would be rich, causing the car to run cooler, this helP.
