  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Support the engine by the oil pan.
  3. Unfasten the 5 bolts and one nut securing the right engine mount, then remove the mount from the vehicle.
  4. Remove the serpentine belt.
  5. Remove the 3 nuts and one bolt retaining the alternator braces, then remove the braces.
  6. Keeping the fluid lines attached, unfasten the 3 power steering pump retaining bolts, then remove the pump.
  7. Using special tool J-38125-A or equivalent, remove the camshaft position sensor. It is retained by one bolt and an electrical connector. The special tool requires the removal of the plastic connector from the wires for clearance. Do NOT cut the pigtail!
To install:
  1. Install the camshaft position sensor. Re-route the pigtail under the power steering pump and alternator brace. Make sure to route the pigtail away from electronic components to avoid Electromagnetic Interference (EMI).
  2. Install the power steering pump assembly, then the alternator braces.
  3. Install the serpentine drive belt, then the right engine mount.
  4. Connect the negative battery cable.

For pontiac grand prix what does trouble code

Appears to be the code for the camshaft position sensor, or cam sensor circuit. Around $35-45.00 for the part at an auto parts store. Have the part replaced. And take it from there. Might be a good thing to replace the spark plugs and wires too.

1998 Pontiac Grand AM GT motor revs

it would not be an O2 sensor, period, they would never cause a high idle, have u had this checked for trouble codes? A sticking idle speed control air bypass can cause this problem as well as a throttle position sensor, but run the codes, Kragen does it for free was well as other parts stores.
