I have a 2001 BMW X5. # weeks ago my windshield wipers started not working. When I turned them off, they would stop mid way up on the windshield, and eventually, they wouldnt even work. same with the windshield cleaner fluid as well. I took it in and they said I needed a new windshield wiper motor. They installed it and gave me the vehicle back. 1 week later the windshield wipers stopped working again. I had them on and they just stopped moving. Again, the winsshld wiper fluid wouldnt even work either. I had to check the wipers every 10-15 minuted and they would eventually work for only 2 to 3 minutes and then stop. Any idea on the problem?? The place fixing it currently has no idea whats wrong and the problem hasnt happened to them when looking at it.

Sounds like it's your switch or a bad relay

SOURCE: Windshield Wiper Arm

Pull up on the wiper arm, you will see a tiny little blade on the side of the wiper arm where it goes over the post, take a little screwdriver and pry that out board, this will release the arm from the post, it will be tight, wiggle the arm and pull straight out away from the post.

SOURCE: windshield wipers won't work right

The windsheild wiper relay might be stuck or broken. Try tapping it with something or replace it. Could also be the the switch (lever that you control the wipers with) i hope this helps and good luck with diagnosing your problem.

SOURCE: BMW X5- 2005 overheats; the washers for the wipers not working

If you are adding coolant and are not seeing a leak, your leak may be internal to the engine (not good). ie. Blown head gasket or cracked head. Check your oil for signs of water, ie milky looking oil on dipstick or rising oil level even though you didn't add oil. Also do a pressure check of coolant system. If it dosn't hold pressure you have a leak someware. Get it fixed ASAP or else say good by to your engine. Also have your water pump and cooling fans ckecked as well. Don't run the AC until its fixed, it just makes the cooling system work harder. As far as the washers, the front and rear use the same container, have the pump checked as well as fuse for the pump and wipers.

SOURCE: rear window wiper works for a few days or weeks

Check the plug is completely plugged into the motor. Maybe a bad connection in the motor itself. Also check the switch, try wiggling it when turning on.

7.8L is the marking on the windshield wiper fluid reservoir and had nothing to do with the engine. With this level of competence, please do not attempt to replace the timing chain. (they're aren't any timing marks, btw)

Windshield wipers quit working in my BMW x5 2000

The first thing i would do would be check the fuses. Look in your owners manual for where the different fuses that might control your windshield wipers. There may be more than one. Check these fuses. If you cannot tell if it is blown by looking at it, check the fuses using a voltmeter set to read continuity.
