Re: 2000 gmc k1500 rear wheel hops when turning in 4wd
When 4x4 is engauged it forces wheels to lock, hence when turning one wheel is turning faster than the other causing it to Hop. remember the wheels are forced to turn at exact speed at all times during 4x4 operation, thats why you dont use it on dry areas

You mean drums? Depends on the vehicle options but should be rotors/pads. Easy to check - look through the wheel spokes and if pads, you should see the rotor.
turn the steering wheel to make a sharp turn to the left or right. if a hopping sensention is felt than the 4 wheel drive is working.
the 4 hi is a locking wheel drive and in a turn, since the outside wheels have to move faster than the inside,it builds up pressure in the driveshaft.
the weak link is the rubber to the road, and the hopping is the change in tire traction.
if there is no hopping, the 4x4 is not working.
try going into reverse for 10 feet then go to drive for 10 feet that might help if not it is to the wiring to you 4x4 engage system (wires to your wheel hub)
I should have been more clear, the rear wheel hops not only when turning, but also when going straight.
