First, car didn't start on the first try, then had messages on dash: brake failure urgent , abs light, and generator light. Stopped car, restarted engine no messages and check brake fluid filled - couldn't see a min line. Few days later low battery voltage, abs light, lost speedometer, car hesitated coming off stops, than car died on road, tried to start and heard click click click. Towed to repair shop had alternator replaced. Just wondering if all the dashboard messages will stop coming up, or do I have a brake problem too?
VOLVO S60 2001: 102,000 miles
FYI : just had car inspected, failed, needed tie rods and tires. Had both repaired - somewhere different then the inspection station. Just seems strange that all these messages appeared and the car died on the road after repairs were made. Was it just a coincidence, or was it "helped" along?
So many lame responses...I went through this same experience and can tell you in my case it was the alternator. All of the warning lights such as the ABS light, airbag light, the warning about the brakes are all because the alternator is not providing the DC voltage all of the car's sophisticated electronics need to correctly monitor these subsystems' status. Mine left me high and dry by the side of Interstate 5 needing a tow. The low battery warning was off and on for about an hour before all of the other warning lights came on, and then about 5 minutes later every needle on the dash went to zero and the car died. After sitting waiting for the tow, it did start up again, but we got it towed to a dealer (thank god it got us within 8 miles of a dealer! the first warnings started when we were in the sticks) who diagnosed it as an alternator. $1200 and two days later and all is well again.

Agreed, you can do one of two things. Replace the alternator, or get some new brushes and try out your soldering skills. Good luck.
SOURCE: Hi, I have a 2000 Volvo
The clicking noise, can be due to worn out brake pads,or brake caliper nut loose .Also check the bake fluid if its low, then refill it.But as you mentioned that clicking noise is now gone, but still ABS light is on and Again check engine light is ON.The check engine light on may be indication of any other fault causing this.Disconnect the car battery for 30 minutes/.Then reconnect and start the car and check. And see if that is getting reset. If still both ABS and Check engine lights are ON.Then car has to be scanned at diagnostic center. At www.autozone.com its absolutely free to get car scanned,.So you can get the car scanned there and confirm the fault. If its any other error then that is the cause of check engine light. But if the same p1550 error is coming up,that means the ABS module is not got properly repaired or its not properly connected.Remove and recheck the module. Also its possible that ABS controlling fuses are blown out and causing this problem. Also possible that ABS pump motor is getting overheated and causing this ABS light to come ON.----------

Have tried getting quality gasoline at a reliable station? It sounds like water in your fuel system. Add a couple bottles of Iso-Heet fuel system dryer everytime you fill up the next few times, and that should cure it.
SOURCE: at various times all the warning lights go on/off
transmisson replacement is necessary.
thanks.
