My abs unit on my 2009 Fiesta ECO Deisel had a total failure last year . More lights on my dash than a funfair.
I bought a second hand ABS unit off Ebay but then had to send it away with the old abs and ECU unit to be reformatted with my vehicles details because it would nit find my car when starting. My ABS Sensors need to be changed as when i start and go around a left hand bend my ABS light with a slipping vehicle on my dash just slows me down .

Lots of ways,,
Just pull the fuse ,unhook a wheel sensor, unplug the control box,
Anything to cause a fault,
As long as the ABS light is on you will have normal base brakes.
(I prefer mine like that)
Be sure the RED brake is not on however.
Hope this helps.

SOURCE: ABS light on after replacing the front and rear brake pads .

u will need to check the wheel speed sensors behind the brake rotors to see if they got damaged or disconnected during the brake job, as long as the ABS light is on the Anti-lock brake system is disabled, regular braking without the need of ABS will feel fine.

SOURCE: bleeding abs brakes

Manual

WARNING: Brake fluid contains polyglycol ethers and polyglycols. Avoid contact with eyes. Wash hands thoroughly after handling. If brake fluid contacts eyes, flush eyes with running water for 15 minutes. Get medical attention if irritation persists. If taken internally, drink water and induce vomiting. Get medical attention immediately.

CAUTION: Do not allow the brake master cylinder reservoir to run dry during the bleeding operation. Keep the brake master cylinder reservoir filled with the specified brake fluid. Never reuse the brake fluid that has been drained from the hydraulic system.

CAUTION: Brake fluid is harmful to painted and plastic surface's. If brake fluid is spilled onto a painted or plastic surface, immediately wash it with water.

NOTE: When any part of the hydraulic system has been disconnected for repair or installation of new components, air can get into the system and cause spongy brake pedal action. This requires bleeding of the hydraulic system after it has been correctly connected. The hydraulic system can be bled manually or with pressure bleeding equipment.

  1. Clean all dirt from and remove the brake master cylinder filler cap and fill the brake master cylinder reservoir with the specified brake fluid.

  2. Place a box end wrench on the RH rear bleeder screw. Attach a rubber drain tube to the RH rear bleeder screw and submerge the free end of the tube in a container partially filled with clean brake fluid.
  3. Have an assistant pump the brake pedal and then hold firm pressure on the brake pedal.
  4. Loosen the RH rear bleeder screw until a stream of brake fluid comes out. While the assistant maintains pressure on the brake pedal, tighten the RH rear bleeder screw.
    • Repeat until clear, bubble-free fluid comes out.
    • Refill the brake master cylinder reservoir as necessary.
  1. Tighten the RH rear bleeder screw.
  2. Repeat Steps 2, 3, 4 and 5 for the LH rear bleeder screw.
  3. Place a box end wrench on the RH front disc brake caliper bleeder screw. Attach a rubber drain tube to the RH front disc brake caliper bleeder screw, and submerge the free end of the tube in a container partially filled with clean brake fluid.
  4. Have an assistant pump the brake pedal and then hold firm pressure on the brake pedal.
  5. Loosen the RH front disc brake caliper bleeder screw until a stream of brake fluid comes out.
    • While the assistant maintains pressure on the brake pedal, tighten the RH front disc brake caliper bleeder screw.
    • Repeat until clear, bubble-free fluid comes out.
    • Refill the brake master cylinder reservoir as necessary.
  1. Tighten the RH front disc brake caliper bleeder screw.
  2. Repeat Steps 7, 8, 9 and 10 for the LH front disc brake caliper bleeder screw.

SOURCE: 2004 focus brake & ABS light on

Ok the reason I ask is that will help to pinpoint the concern. See ABS system when you first turn the ignition on will do a self test on itself, light turns on for a few seconds then turns off if everything proves out. Then when you start driving once you reach about 12 mph it will activate the pump and perform a 2nd self test.If everything is ok light stays off,if it see's a problem it turns on the light and disables the ABS.
Since yours comes on after you start driving then problem is most likely a wheel speed sensor concern. Since you just did a rear brake job and the problem started after this I would say it is one of the rear sensors. You need to look at the sensors and make sure the sensor and ring look ok and that you didn't get grease or dirt in the teeth of the sensor ring or maybe bent the end of one of the sensors and make the gap larger between sensor and ring.

SOURCE: 98' Ford Windstar has a spongy brake

Have you had anyone try to clean and adjust the rear brakes? You will need a shop to scan the van for ABS codes first to cure the ABS light.

SOURCE: 92 dodge van rear ABS-brake and ABS lights on/can't reset?

Its probably how your bleeding your brakes, but first make sure the bleeding nipples are facing upward. You should bleed diagonaly, front pass wheel then rear driver wheel. Then front driver wheel and rear pass wheel. The abs light has its own computer your have to get it scanned to clear the codes and turn off the light

01 frontier brake issue. thinking abs problem

A key question is whether the power brake assist is normal while driving. If it isn't, you may have to depress the brake pedal 'hard enough' to actuate the ABS system. Do you notice typical ABS modulation of the brakes while the pedal is 'hard'?

Personally I'd think any fault with the ABS itself would throw a code, either setting the ABS light on the dash or providing something in the OBD-II scan. Have you observed any codes resulting from, say, a free scan at AutoZone?

2009 Dodge Caliber - The ABS & Brake Light came on as well as the feeling/sensation of the brake being applied very hard for a split second.

take it to an accredited brake specialist shop
I suspect that the brake booster is becoming defective and the small application to the pedal causes excessive booster reaction
the abs section only maintains applied brake fluid pressure as set by the position of the pedal
that is to maintain the pressure as the stopping and start movement of a skidding wheel opens and closes a valve to that wheel /s
if you are on ice that sudden hard braking will cause the wheels to lock and immediately the abs cuts in to allow the wheels to turn and then to allow brake action to be reapplied
if the abs is working under brakes you will get a pulsating feeling under your foot as the fluid pressure is alternation between full on and released by the abs valves

Fiesta duratec 2005 Abs warning light on

Whenever the ABS module turns on the ABS light in the dash it is to alert you to the fact that a fault has occurred in the ABS system and the control module has turned off the ABS brake control, you now have regular non ABS brakes. The waring light will stay on until the fault is corrected. Since a large number of problems would cause this you must get the control module scanned to retrieve the fault code that was set in the control modules memory when it turned on the light. Once the fault code is known the process of diagnosis and repair can begin.

2009 Impala- cna't get it out of park. We have

This happened to my dad's F150 and it was the ABS fuse. He had a ABS warning light on the dash, so you might have the same. I would check any fuse related to the brakes and instruments lights. Hopefully it is a fuse issue, which is a quick fix. If not, it could be a solenoid lock which does not allow the shifter to move without the brake being depressed.

Hi...i have a 2005 chrysler town & country sto & go LX 3.3L V-6 mini van....for some reason the brakes r acting up....sometimes they work sometimes the pedal goes all the way to the floor....master...

its sounds like it could be a bad master cylinder with an internal leak.it could also be a problem with the abs hydraulic module that for some reason is bypassing brake fluid within the unit itself.these problems won`t neccessarily turn on the dash light or activate the abs light.
