Pop your trunk, and you'll see two Torx screws on the side of the tail light assembly. Use your T-15 screwdriver on these.
The tail light assembly should easily slide out at this point. You'll see four connectors: a wiring harness, reverse light, turn signal, and brake light. Disconnect the proper connector, and you'll see the burned-out bulb. Give it a yank, and it will pop right out.
if its 5 speed trans,try replacing the reverse light switch on the trans,it is located on top of the trans under the battery,,like $16 part,they go bad alot
A similar problem with my 2003 Ion turned out to be a recall that was
never repaired (it needed a Daytime Running Lamp Jumper Kit installed).
I would suggest calling the Saturn Customer Assistance Center
(1-800-553-6000); if you give them your VIN# they can tell you whether
or not there are any open recalls on your vehicle. Or, call your local
Saturn dealership; they can look it up too, and if it is an open recall
that's where you'll have to take it to get it fixed anyway (at Saturn's expense).
To remove the front light, you have two pins. take them out and the the whole light comes out. Then just remove the back bulb housing and replace the bulb. Pretty easy.
The problem is most likely on the transmission range selector switch, this is on th top of the transmission and has a multi-wire connector going to it, a shaft goes through it and the trans shift cable is connected there.
