Make sure the vehicles don't touch each other. The battery that is NOT maintenance-free nneds to have their caps taken off, and a cloth layed over their vent holes. The good battery is the BOOSTER battery, and its black negative cable should be connected to a good ground on the engine block. The other terminal ends of the jumper cable should be connected to the terminal ends of the dead battery. Start the engine using the booster battery. When the engine is running, disconnect the jumper cables.

To jump start any car, you will need to have either a portable jump starter (that look like the ones found here: http://www.autobarn.com.au/products/7/45/3022812/) or have jumper leads which look like alligator clips.

To use either option, attach one side of the jumper cables to to your battery, then attach the other end to another car battery (or in the case of the portable jump starter, it will be already connected with the unit).

Ensure the correct color cable is attached to the correct battery terminal (metal point on battery), i.e. red to red, black to black.

Caution: Car batteries have a high amperage and can lead to electrocution if you touch both metal points on the battery. Always be careful when doing so and if unsure, do not attempt to do so without assistance from a competent individual.

Do the dash lights go out after jump starting ? Did you check what the voltage is at the battery while running , should be 13.1 to 14.1 .or more on some computer controlled charging systems ! What are you using to jump start the vehicle ? When disconnecting what ever your using to jump start the vehicle , does the vehicle die right away ?

Why does my hatch back open during driving

Why do you jump start your vehicle. Jump starting is not recommended on newer vehicles because of the electronic components the new vehicles come with. Did you know that when you jump start newer vehicles, access voltage can be generated from the other vehicle giving the jump, and that access voltage can damage the vehicle getting the jump. The vehicle's computer and/or other electronic components can be damaged. If your computer gets damaged, it will forget how to start. A replacement computer can cost several thousand dollars.

1994 Buick Park Avenue: will not start with out jumping, Replaced the battery, problem remains. Can jump start the car and drive it but when shut down for a few minutes it will not restart using battery...

QUESTION: Without a jump, does the motor crank when you turn the key to "START"?

...

If you can jump start it, then you know you have spark, fuel and compression; you know your starter and ignition are fine.

My guess is a loose/missing connection at the positive battery terminal for your starter.

F150 supercrew cab won't start,,battery good

If you're using your truck to jump start another dead battery in a different car..your truck should be runing when you do that.....

If you leave your truck turned off and are jump starting another car/truck that way..you are drawing your CCA (cold cranking amps) way down, and really shortening the life of your batery..you'll be needing to get jump started yourslf pretty soon.
