run the fault codes and look for problem atmospheric temp sensor unit
that tells the ECM to increase the fuel to the injectors , the same as pulling on the choke
could also be the barometric sensor ( atmospheric sensor ) which measures the density of the air--- that is faulty
cold air is heavy air where as up high the air is thinner and lighter so if that sensor is out then again the ecm cannot supply the correct fuel setting for a cold start

I`m positive you have a bad head gasket.I just did one for a friend of mine that had the same problem on his Buick Rondevous.Same motor.These are good motors but they have a tendency to blow the head gaskets.It is usually the back one for the #1 cylinder.Hope this helps.Good luck.
if the light is blue it just means the car is not at operating temperature yet. let the car warm up before driving. if the light is red and only stays on for seconds check the coolant level. could possibly be a bad level sensor also if the light is red
hi change the glow plugs and no its not normall there should be no air in the system it is either sucking air or it has not been bled properly last time system was worked on usually when changing the fiter check the whole system for signs of leaks if non found bled the system until you get rid of them yates210456
