I replace the O2 sensor on my 1997 Pontiac Grand Am and before the week is over, the service engine soon light comes on again indicating the O2 sensor is bad. I have replaced it three times so far.

What code are you getting? A O2 sensor code could be caused by any number of reasons not just a faulty O2 sensor.

2001 Pontiac Grand Am SE O2 Sensor

Its not the O2 sensors, or the coolant sensor or the thermostat. Get the codes read front the computer. Post those codes here before you spend any more money or install the other parts.

How many oxygen sensors does a 1997 pontiac grand am have and how would i know which one needs to be replaced, the car is idling high. I also need to replace the exhaust manifold gasketand i was asked was...

Your vehicle will have 2 O2 sensors. One before the catalytic converter and one after. replacing the O2 sensor will likely not solve your high idle issue. An O2 sensor that has gone bad will likely set a code and turn on the check engine light. Is the check engine light on?

I assume you have a 3.1 liter V-6?

The left exhaust manifold will be the one closest to the radiator. The righ will be the one closest to the firewall.

2003 Grand Prix service engine light on even after new catalytic

I wouldn't have gotten a cat. If the o2s are all replaced, then it could be an EGR valve

1998 pontiac grand prix gt service engine soon light just came on. Auto Zone did a test and came back with a code. It said ''Fuel Air Metering P1133''. Can you tell me what this is?

P1133 HO2S Insufficient Switching Sensor 1

THIS IS THE O2 SENSOR CLOSEST TO THE ENGINE AND BEFORE THE CONVERTER.

AN EXHAUST LEAK OR A BAD SENSOR COULD BE THE PROBLEM.

CHECK THE O2 SENSOR WIRING FOR DAMAGE, CORROSION, ETC.

Abs light, trac light, service engine soon light 2001 Pontiac Grand Am

Sounds like you have a bad wheel speed sensor. You need to have it scanned. Since it's been sitting, it might just be a bad connection to one of the speed sensors.

Service Engine Light staying On

Alot of times a voltage drop to the O2 Sensor can cause your check engine light to come on. Even tho the O2 sensor is wrong fine.

Pontiac 2002 se: veh soon light, trac light, abs light comes on

I have this same problem and had it checked. It is the wheel sensor. Mine is the passenger front right wheel sensor. According to the mechanic I take it to the GrandAm's are known for this. The part is about $40.
