Depending on the vehicle turn on the emergency flashers. Most older cars use the same bulbs for brakes and emergency light. If they are the same and blink, then check the power to the brake light switch. If there is no power there, check the fuses. Also make sure that the brake light bulbs are good.

What make ,model an year vehicle ? Some newer vehicles with BCM'S - body control modules turn on these brake lights . Brake light switch is really a position sensor , it inputs to the BCM .

have you checked wire harness @ rear of truck ? and along frame rail, ? and condition of the rear taillight assymblies, ? corrosion could be in these areas. check all ground wires also, not sure about relay ! don' t think so ! why would brakes need one ?

These are all different circuits. The brake lights are on a 10amp fuse - the headlights are on a 50amp fuse - and the parking and dash lights are on a 20amp fuse.
Do you have power going into the headlight switch and the brake light switch ?

the brake lights don't light up or the taillights don't light up? the brake lights are brighter than the tailights so the tailights won't show up whenbrakes are applied. if no lights work when brakes are applied then check for a bad ground at the light assembly.

Don't know about the check engine light,but if brakes go all the way down,you either have a bad leak or the master cylinder has gone bad.
If the car has anti-lock brakes,it needs a mechanic to do the bleeding of the brakes the correct way. don-ohio (:^)

My truck will not go into gear from Park position.

In the early 90's, a safety feature was added to keep people from shifting out of park without having their brakes on. This feature runs through the brake lights (in Fords, at least.) I would bet your brake lights don't work, and if they don't then that would be why you're stuck in Park

does the high mounted stop light work? if so, the turn signal switch may be bad. the brake light signal runs through the brake light switch, there was a recall 08V231000 for some of these models, call the dealer and have them check if there is an OPEN RECALL on your truck. . as for the hard starting, check fuel pressure , if its not at least 60psi, it needs a new fuel pump and filter.

OK try this, push and hold brake then push on the hazard switch if brake lights come on then replace the turn signal switch.
