1997 Land Rover Discover Heater A/C Dead Mouse/Rat Smell or Fan does not work
Dead mouse in the AC/Heater fan 3rd time for me and $200-$400 each time the dealership cleans it out. So today I did it myself and now mad I spent $800 prior. It’s a bit of a job but once you do it all makes sense.
STEPS:
1) Remove glove box completely – undo the spring loaded latches on each side that hold it open, and then unbolt the hinges (4 bolts)
2) Remove the black cardboard cover completely – 3 plastic clips carefully pull out and rear clip unscrews
3) Now you can see the fan housing in plain view
4) Unplug as many plugs in the fan as possible (remember where they go!)
5) Unclip/unscrew the cables attached to the fan housing
6) Unbolt the 2 bolts up top and unbolt the 2 bolts below
7) Now the fan housing is loose and you can move it but not fully remove it
8) Remove the 3 screws at the bottom of the fan housing (you can see 2 and a 3rd is in the back)
9) Once you remove all 3 screws you can now from the bottom remove and expose the fan
10) If it’s full of **** JACKPOT if it’s not you may have other problems
11) Clean it well and make sure it does not smell
12) Now just follow the directions in reverse to put it back together
13) Once you put the fan back on with the 3 screws maybe test it to make sure it works before completely finishing the job
Hope this helps my 1997 rover smells good and the AC/Heater works great!
