SOURCE: 1992 dodge dakota starting problem

The first thing you need is to have the unit scanned. Check things like the baro sensor, map sensor, coolant temp. and the TP sensor. Also check your fuel pressure, volume and injector spray pattern. I think you will have found your problem, but if not hit me back with engine size and any codes,Good Luck.

SOURCE: My 92 Dodge Dakota keeps dying while in motion

I had same problem with 99 Durango.
It was an easy and cheap fix -- I went to AutoBeef.com and learned common problem with 98 & 99 Durango -- sounds exactly like your problem. I was encouraged to replace the PCM "Brain" and was advised of an online Refurbished PCM dealer located in Florida. You can google as I forgot the name. I called them and they confirmed an easy fix w only 3 screws to change out the brain. The cost was < $300.00 and my son & bro changed it out. Runs great ever since -- I was so grateful for AutoBeef.com for delievering this information to me. My car would die on me without warning -- totally unreliable and dealer and mechanics had no clue. Your problem sounds like mine -- call the PCM reburbishing company and see what they think.

92 Dakota 3.9 L fuel pump won't shut off. What is going on?

the fuel pump relay contacts may have fused together, remove the relay and see if it stops, if it nuns for10 minutes then stops points to fuel fault, replace the filter then check pressure and flow. if the pressure is low check the fuel regulator and pump.

1998 dodge dakota 3.9 runs great for about 10 min. than starts to miss and backfire no check engine light

you may have a plugged fuel filter as you don`t say if you have changed it. also have your fuel pressure tested with a gage, it should run about 36 lbs pressure if its multi-point fuel injection or run at about 15/18 lbs pressure if its a throttle body.

1987 Dodge Dakota Sport 3.9L V-6 Runs beautiful for about 10 min then starts cutting out , i have to pull over but it doesnt die. When i pull over and stop the problem seems to go away, get back on th

Well the diesel effect is from the idle speed being too high or a buildup of carbon inside the engine acting as replacement spark plugs.
Can you use starting fluid to find out if the cutting out is from lack of fuel ?

92 dakota will not idle, it starts but will only run if foot is on the gas pedal

At the base of the throttle body is an Air Idle Valve
with wires going to it

Remove & clean or replace

Also install new spark plugs, the plugs helped

My dodge dakota 4.7 starts without any problem and runs great for approximately one minute. It then starts floundering and will die. You can turn it off or wait for it to die, and restart it and it runs...

Sounds like you have a restricted fuel filter that is causing your vehicle to start sputtering because it can't meet the engine's demand for fuel and then dies when fuel is depleted. After your vehicle stops running, fuel starts seeping by and you can start it again with ease hot or cold and you get the same results moments later if this sounds right replace your fuel filter.

I have a 1992 dodge Dakota and it keeps shutting down while driving or anything. Replaced the fuel pump, fuel filter, and plugs wires, abstribator cap and rotary button, and also the pick up.

This is a common problem when your crankshaft position sensor starts failing. I am attaching a picture to show you where it is. If it is faulty, your engine will stall for no apparent reason, and then will usually start again, almost right away.jcfs259.gif

Have you relapced the fuel pump and filter? Take it to a garage and have the fuel pump pressure checked. It very common for fuel pumps or a clog in the line to cause this.
