SOURCE: Need Diagram of water pump on a 1998 Dodge Intrepid 2.7,

the water pump is timing chain driven and to replace it requires serious disassembly of the engine. it is a 13 + hour job and is not for the casual mechanic

SOURCE: 1998 dodge neon fuel pump installation

you will have to take the vacuum canister mounted by the fuel tank loose lower the tank enough to let the pump clear the fender well, remove the big plastic nut from around the pump assembly, disconnect the fuel lines and unplug the assembly remove and replace. be sure to disconnect the battery because you could short the new one out when reconnecting the plug.

On my 1998 dodge neon, I replaced the water pump and the car is running hot, the fan does not come on, what could the problem be?

Always start with the easy things. Likely an electrical connection on the fan or on the sensor is not connected, or a sensor was broken by accident. Take a close look at all the connections that are near or on the pump and the area where you were working. Especially look for thing you had to remove or disconnect to replace the pump.

1998 neon keeps overheating mostly when idleing...the theromostat has been replaced twice and radiator replaced about 1 year ago

is the cooling fan working when it should be.if so then you could have a water pump problem or a head gasket problem.

What's the schedule replacement of the timing belt in a 1998 Dodge Neon? Also, when the water pump goes out and coolant is leaking, does the timing belt need to be changed too.

80-100,000 is a good idea. absolutely replace the timing belt at the same time. it'soff anyway and soaked with coolant. cheap insurance!

Where is the water pump located. 1998 dodge neon

The water pump is driven by the timing belt. If its leaking replace it NOW. If the pump locks up, the timing belt will break and your valves will bent. and then the car will not be worth fixing. Replace the pump, belt and the tensioner. Dodge may have a redesigned tensioner and cover, buy all parts from the dealer.

98 dodge neon

if 2.4l or 2.0 is about the same you will have to pull your balancer pulley then take off the guard around it then loosen the timein tincher then take your timein belt off then you should see your water pump everything is going to be on the side of the motor and probably will have to put a jack up under the motor and take the motor mount off the side of the motor.
