If the compressor is the problem A/C should work. But I work with idiots. I replace the compressor, expansion valve and dryer. And clean the system out. They replaced the compressor. then the expansion valve. then did it again after they clean the lines out, Then again, because the dryer held to much metal from the compressor going bad. And yes, you can bypass the heater core. But if the blend door actuator is bad, it won't be cold.

they always are on at the same time, the air temperature control blend door controls the outlet temp. It is broken or the electric motor that moves it is boken or both are defective which is the usual case,.

The heater core went out. Water leaked out underneath the car and some inside on passenger side at foot space

you can do two different things to fix, one- install a heater bypass hose. two replace the heater core, that is a job that no one wants to do. you have to remove the whole dashboard to get to the core. i spent over $700 for parts and labor. the bypass hose can be bought or made yourself for $15.

i would try www.car-part.com its a nationwide junk yard inventory site theres some great deals there for domestic cars.try to replace the wire conectors at the compressor maybe the freon shorted them out.
