You will most likely need electrical portion of the ignition switch.It is a comon problem and not hard to replace

Have you tried starting car,some times on boxters low battery can give this problem

The boxster has been sat for a while and the battery was flat. after starting it and taking round about 20 miles I thought it would have enough charge. however the alarm went off and now it keeps going off...

Really should diconnect he battery and charge it up for a day or so. Then give it a spin. Shd be OK. The low batery level is playing havoc with the security system sending false signals triggering various states of lay up mode.

2002 Porsche Boxster - had squealing coming from

Mine did that off and on for a month with no other problems then it started making a loud suction noise and the check engine light came on. I took it to the dealer and they said the "oil separator" needed to be replaced.
After the repair I never heard the squealing again.

Yes. It may have a weak magnet on it. Otherwise it would be the ignition or control module. Try replacing key first.

You are Burning Oil. Check the Oil Level, Should be low. Have a Mechanic check your Compression and the Rings in that Motor!

Intermittent starting problem -2004 Porsche Boxster s

it is your ignition switch, you need to replace it, you can do this by removing the plastic casing around the steering column, remove the ignition by taking out all of the bolts and putting a new one in, once you remove the plastic casing you will see how to remove the ingnition, just a few bolts.

yes removing the battery sets off the security system and locks out the engine from starting, reset it.
