Procedure for 2002 Land Rover models:
1. With the doors shut and from inside the vehicle.
2. Turn ignition to position 1 and back to off within 5 seconds
3. Remove key from ignition and press and hold the unlock button (has
an arrow on it) for 15 seconds during this time press the key lock button
(has Land Rover logo)3 times within 5 seconds
4. Release both buttons
5. Doors will lock and unlock to show correct programming has occurred

Unfortunately it doesn't look like there are any special features, most of the entries revolve around reprogramming if you have to replace or renew the batteries.
Sounds like the activator rod that goes from the door Handle to the latch is disconnected. You will have to get the door open to repair it and a good mechanic or tow truck driver can use a slim Jim kit to get the latch to release and then you can pull the door panel and find the problem.

the lever to the lock is there. move the lock by hand iniside, i bet it opens now.
on most cars there is a child lock feature, its covered in the operators guide the fact there. read that. first.

I would suggest a new key fob and get the dealers to program it so you know it all works.Yes some vehicles can be programmed by swinging on the aerial and pressing the rear tailgate all at the same time whilst turning the ignition on with the left foot whilst the right foot is on the am/fm radio button but whenever i have followed the instructions to the letter its far easier if the car is connected the dealers computer
my v70 vovlo estate(2000) tailgate wont open.checked fuses ok.no sound from mechansim when key fob depressed as the others do.Cant get into the back panel or open door at all.can you help with a suggestion?
