When driving my 1992 Lexus LS 400 and I step on the brake pedal the little reverse light on the instrument panel lights up in the car downshifts a gear I thought you might be coming from the computer shift control unit at the shifter so I unplugged it turned key on & stepped on the brake pedal & the reverse light still comes on. I'm not sure where to look next can anybody help?

You're alternator has gone bad and the vehicle was running on battery power. The "clicking" sound is your now dead battery that does not have enough power to turn over the starter. You might also want to check your power steering pump for leak. This is a know problem with early LS400s and will most likey be the cause of the alternator failure. I just dropped $1050.00 to fix the very same promblems you have.

You are the MAN, Just like you said TRocky, there was a short in the center brake light wiring. Found the short in the rubber boot that connects from the lift gate to the car. Inside that rubber boot the wires were cracked and some were shorting.Repaired the wiring and everything is back to normal.

Simple fix... Just replace the brake light switch. It is located on the brake pedal arm about 6 inches above the pedal, it will have a plug going to it as well.
