SOURCE: spark plug gap

Notice: This engine has aluminum cylinder heads. Do not remove the spark plugs from a hot engine, allow it to cool first. Removing the spark plugs from a hot engine may cause spark plug thread damage or cylinder head damage.
Gap the spark plug, using round wire type spark plug gap gage.

Gap Adjust the spark plug gap to 1.14 mm (0.045 in).

DO NOT coat the spark plugs with anti seize compound. Over torquing could occur and damage to the cylinder head threads may result.

If your going to use Platnum plugs, DO NOT GAP them. Just check the gap and if there not the right gap, ask for new one's with the right gap.

The metal on the PLatnum plugs, are harder and my break apart in the cylinder .

Good luck and hope this helps

SOURCE: 2001 Firebird 3.8 misfires

Check your alternator see if you have a drop in voltage on your tack, then it is the problem.I too was a victim of high price tune up and still had a problem with a misfire.and cover your coil pack with a piece of rubber water run of onto your power pack .Another thing is to use a silicone spray on all wires.

Spark plug gap settings chart

You should be using platinum or iridium plugs with the LT1, and you don't gap those, they are set at the factory. If for some reason you want to use copper, it's .050", but they are going to wear out faster so you aren't saving any money by using them. Also, it's not a very easy job, so you wouldn't want to have to do it two or three times when you could have done it once.

See if you still have the Vehicle Emission Control Information label (the VECI label) under the hood on some radiator support member, probably. The spark plug gap is listed on it.

1.= HOW MUCH FUEL PRESSURE DO YOU HAVE?
YOU NEED AROUND 30 TO 45 LBS.
2.= MAKE SURE YOUR FUEL PRESSURE DOES NOT DROP RAPIDLY AFTER YOU SHUT YOUR KEY OFF.
IF IT DROPS REPLACE YOUR PRESSURE REGULATOR.
3.= YUOR PLUGS COULD BE FOULED TOO, IT HAPPENS.
IF YOU DO NOT HAVE ENOUGH FUEL PRESSUR THIS WILL CAUSE YOUR INJECTORS TO RUN RICH.

Need to know how to change plugs and wires on a 98 pontiac firebird (am a female gentleman be easy lol)

You will need a 5/8 sparkplug socket for a 3/8 drive ratchet
A 3/8 drive extension bar
A 3/8 drive ratchet
Pull wire off of spark plug, slide socket over plug, turn counter clockwise until plug comes out. Some might come out hard, and some are a son of gun to get at. To install, it's just reverse, but don't really crank down on them when you tighten them. At the same time, you can replace the wire on each plug you take out. Do one at a time, that way you won't screw up the firing order. Good luck.

What is the correct spark plug gap for a 301 Pontiac Firebird?

I looked under the hood at the factory sticker, (which is still readable) and it said it gaps at 0.60. So, that is what I did and everything turned out fine. And I do not believe in paying or charging anyone for this kind of information.
