Checking the transmission fluid in your Volkswagen isn't as simple as it used to be. To check the transmission fluid level requires your vehicle to be on a lift that it can be set level on. With the engine running and transmission warm, a plug has to be removed from the bottom of the transmission pan. This plug is at the base of a short stand-pipe (tube) inside the transmission oil pan. With the plug removed a small amount of oil should spill out (what is trapped in the stand-pipe) and if the fluid is at the correct it will continue to drip. If that is the case the transmission fluid is at the correct level. If all that comes out is what is trapped in the stand-pipe then the fluid level could be low. To add fluid to the transmission requires removal of the fill plug that is located on the front left upper corner by the oil pan. Oil is added at that point until oil starts running out or dripping from the stand-pipe. When replacing the fill plug you also need a replacement lock for the plug from Volkswagen. Many of today's vehicles are equipped with sealed transmissions that require specialized procedures, equipment and parts to check the transmission fluid level. Sorry for the bad or good news. This way just make sure that the person services the transmission to keep the warranty valid.

How do I check and add ATF fluid in a 2004 VW convertible beetle s turbo

Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) is an important component for the proper function of your 2004 VW Beetle Convertible Turbo's transmission. Here are the steps to check and add ATF fluid:
  1. Locate the transmission dipstick. It is typically located near the back of the engine on the driver's side.
  2. Pull out the dipstick and wipe it clean with a rag.
  3. Re-insert the dipstick fully and remove it again to check the fluid level. The fluid should be between the "MIN" and "MAX" marks on the dipstick.
  4. If the fluid level is low, add fluid through the dipstick tube. It is recommended to use the same type of fluid specified by the manufacturer, Volkswagen G 052 162 A2 or Volkswagen G 052 990 A2.
  5. Repeat the process of checking and adding fluid until the fluid level is between the "MIN" and "MAX" marks on the dipstick.
  6. Run the engine for a few minutes and recheck the fluid level to make sure that it is correct.

Where to check transmission fluid levels

if this is an automatic the only correct way to check the trans fluid is with a scanner,no more sticks. but if you are mechanic inclined on the trans oil pan there is a hole with a big nut in it if you take that nut out with the car at about normal operating temperature a little bit of oil should come out,if it does the level is fine if not you need to add, this is a special trans fluid so get it from your vw dealer. let me know how it goes ,thanks

Is there a way to add transmission fluid to a 99 Super Beetle sealed transmission. I have a delay when starting out and really need to hit the gas. I was told the synthetic fluid is sealed in the...

You most likely have the 01M 4-speed. There is no way for us common folk to check or change the fluid on this trans. You can't find the fluid in any parts store. The dealer needs to have the car connected to a VAG computer to check the trans. If it don't leak, if it has never even shown signs of seeping then its probably not low. The average life is somewhere around 160,000 but results may vary.

How to add Auto Trans fluid to 1999 VW Beetle & what kind of fluid

Been there tried that. The unit is more or less sealed. You will need to go to a VW dealer to have the fluid checked and added, if required. Be very careful, there's an entry port on the top of the transmission that some cables/wires go through. If you break this seal there is no simple fix. It costs about $700 to have it replaced by the dealer.

Cannot find dipstick to check transmission fluid on 99 vw beetle. do '99 Passats need transmission fluid added to the engine? If so, how do I do this?

There is no "dipstick for the VW Beetle transmission". This is a dealer check/repair item. The unit is typically sealed, but can have a leak if the seal on top of the transmission fails. About a $700 repair. This happened on my 1998 VW New Beetle.

How or where do I check auto. trans. fluid ? 99 Jetta

the automatic transmission fluid must be checked by a VW dealer. there is no dipstick. the transmission fluid must be moitored b y a scan tool at a certain temp. If the incorrect fluid is added, transmission failure may occur. Recommend a good VW dealer for this issue.
