My 2001 Taurus with V-6 Vulcan engine has 51,000 miles. I have had this car in the shop for the problem and it continues. After engine runs, trip to drug store, post office and on the second or third stop it will not start. I checked the fuel cap and fuel level. After a period of time the car will start. I need the dependability back. This is a periodic problem and it doesn't happen but randomlly. The Ford Service plug in monitor says everything is OK. Is it the fuel system back pressure? Have gas in tank but sometimes it is low. Engine fluid coolant level low? Not always able to check. It seems OK over the radiator core. Any suggestions where else to look?

Have you recently replaced your fuel filter? It's something easily overlooked and could be interupting your fuel pressure.

Have your fuel filter replaced. I had the same problem in my 2000 F-150 - if its really clogged, it'll take probably two or three changes until its fixed... also add some SEAFOAM in the gas. works everytime

My daughter has a 2003 ford taurus stationwagon. In town it has not pick up. She is trying to drive home from about 100 miles away and cant get the car to go above 40. It works for a little while after...

I need more input; like How many miles does it have, or what kind of engine does it have, example: 3.0 litter Vulcan or duratec (the Vulcan is a regular 12 valve engine while the Duratec has dual overhead cams 24 valves) does it run rough when in Idle, does it hesitate under acceleration? Did the "check engine" light come on? It could be a number of things, I am going to try to narrow it down by the symptoms. Which is very difficult. The Ideal would be to get the "check engine light" ON so we can retrieve a code.

This car has 51,000 miles. Engine reads 16v ztec. Stumbled on acceleration. Cleaned the throttle body and mass air flow. Took it for a run and it threw the first check engine light, Had auto zone pull the...

All I am getting from your discription, is that you
have a code & a misfire ,you have yet to diagnose.

Except for replacing the wires, that should last the life
of the car,your doing okey

You now are embarking on throwing parts at it,
not diagnosing.

I can't tell you how to continue,as I don't know
if have any test equip or skills required.

You may have a bad ignition module or other
issues

Again,test,don't install 1 part,unless something
tests bad.

Overheating engine in 24 valve 96 ford taurus 6 cyl

the thermostat can be easily changed from up top, the T-stat is located at the engine end of the upper radiator hose under the flange the hose connects to. Make sure u follow manufacturer's cooling system bleeding procedures when you refill after the T-stat is changed out.

2001 ford taurus p0301 and p0303

You are mis fireing on cyl 1 and 3 if you replaced plugs and wires and coil this is going to be a fuel injector issue or valve issue. See if you can swap the injectors with known good cyl. and see if it changes. Or have a shop do a fuel injector service on it to see if it helps. It may be to late for the fuel injector service.
