Either a sensor or the motor for your electrically assisted power steering is having an issue. Not something that can be diagnosed without actually touching the car with tools and talking to it's computer.

SOURCE: A4 steering lock does not engage and car won't turn over

The steering locks don't necessarily engage when the key is removed, I always turn the wheel before exiting to engage it. There are several positions that will allow the pin to lock in but if between these, it may seem that it isn't locked.

SOURCE: power steering on 2006 chevy cobalt

There is NO power steering fluid in a 06 Cobalt. It is electric! This is a flaw that GM is not willing to come to terms with. Try topix.com for the list of over 350 people that this has happened to. Also, the dealership wants YOU to pay for it. There should be a recall. VERY dangerous!

1994 Buick LeSabre has clicking noise in steering column when reversing.

Could it be coming from the dash??? That car might be old enough to have a speedo cable. Another thought, I know some Caddys that had an automatic park brake release. You had to put it in gear for the Park brake to release. Hope that helps.

My direction light has come on and i can barely steer?

Hi Janett, Are you sure the engine is not cutting as you slow to make a turn? Sounds like that to me! Take the vehicle to your shop and ask for a diagnostic scan to be carried out and mention that the engine is cutting sometime at low revs. Regards John

I lost reverse on my 1994 chevy suburban 454, but forward gears work....help?

You start buy pulling the unit out & having it
rebuilt

There is no other fix, but to completely strip your
trans & go thru it.

If the truck is not on the second trans in 18 years,
I would be surprised

Be thankfully you don't have a transaxle, they never
make 100,000 miles & in some case only a few years.

I have an 05 Honda Odessey. At slow speeds I have

it is possible that you've got an issue with your power steering system, but the noise should be equally noticeable in both forward and reverse. the front differential is inside your transmission and if the differential is worn it will whine. if you pay close attention you may notice the noise when in first gear going from acceleration to deceleration at about 20mph. if this happens, it's most likely your transmission that needs to be replaced.

I have a 2008 Toyota Rav 4 with 27,000 miles on it. I went to start my car at the store and it wouldn't start. AAA jump-started it; I drove it for 30 minutes and parked it in the driveway, turned it off,...

You most likely have a bad battery since the car starts with a jump. As for the steering problem you have electronic power steering. Most newer cars have this nowadays. Battery problems can cause this problem also.

2002 Mountaineer SUV, 4WD, Especially while turning the wheels

I had the same problem with my 2002 Mountaineer at about forty thousand miles. Murcury replaced the steering column free under warranty. I now have ninty two thousand miles and it's back. The rear end is making a whining noise, the tranny is starting to slip, and the rear window regulator went out. Why did we buy a Mercury?????? Disgusted Dave!!!

My reverse went out but only go forward!

Arthur,

Shouldnt be a big deal.

Your shift linkage is probably bent.

You will need to go to a trans shop and get it fixed.

I highly recommend AAMCO since they warranty their work. They will have to "unbend" the bracket or readjust the cable play, or repair the linkage that places the car in the proper gear according to your indicator on steering column or dash.

Not a big deal...but then again you could have crushed the synchro gears, but i truly doubt it!

Thanks,
Mark
