I have a 1988 buick electra w/ 3.8 v6 engine. It runs but will not idle, has the sound of a large vacuum leak which i can't find. Have check all vacuum lines and have replaced the vacuum bypass solenoid as...

Get A can of WD40; look for the flammable kind. Start the engine and spray around the manifold and any vacuum hoses you see, work your way from top down, when you get close to a vacuum leak the engine will give you an indication as it changes the speed and sound. Then look closer to identify the location of what is leaking. Hope this helps fixya up.

Where is the blower motor and how is it replaced on a 1988 Buick Century?

First make sure the blower is bad. Please see my tip at http://www.fixya.com/cars/r6234839-doesn_t_heater_or_air_conditioner_blow .
Below are instructions from autozone.com for replacing your blower.

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION See Figures 1, 2 and 3
This procedure is applicable for vehicles, with or without air conditioning.

  1. Disconnect the negative cable at the battery.
  2. On the 3.1L (VIN M) you will need to remove the serpentine belt and move the alternator aside. See Engine & Engine Overhaul for removal and installation.
  3. For the 2.2L (VIN 4), disconnect the air inlet resonator, then remove the torque strut from the engine. Rotate the engine slightly forward.
  4. Working inside the engine compartment, disconnect the blower motor electrical leads.
  5. Remove the motor retaining bolts. If there is a hose disconnect it, then remove the blower motor.

1988 Buick Park Avenue, no fuel to motor. May be fuel pump or fuse problem

Your fuel pump fuse is in the fuse panel on the drivers side of the dash. The fuel pump is in the tank. Chances are after 22 years its the pump. Disconnect the battery and drop the tank. Be prepared and pick up new straps when you pick-up the pump.
