Car turns off when engaging clutch to a lower gear

The car switches off the rerve count when engaging to a lower gear.I have replaced the old enginebecause of this problem, but the problem still is there. When approaching a stop sign or robot, I only press the break so the count would go down to atleast 1000 reves and immediately when you press the clutch, it switches off and worst is that the clutche kit is original and has just been replaced.

SOURCE: grinding sound on pressing clutch in at high revs

The grinding sound may be a throw out bearing or the pilot bearing. The sticking throttle problem sounds like a linkage or cable binding up from possibly damage due to the impact from the accident.

SOURCE: Clutch pedal sometimes engages when near floor

Hi. Let me try to lend you a bit of assistance, also.
My fellow expert Benimur is very correct with his input to you.

But...Air does not get into your clutch hydraulics unless the fluid has leaked out at some point. As long as the cylinders and tubes are intact, I would doubt that air is the issue. Short of pulling the transaxle, and inspecting the clutch, there is really no other way to determine your issue properly.

Personally, I think that you haven internal problem with the clutch assembly. It could be worn fingers on the clutch plate, a worn clutch disc, or something as simple as the throwout bearing is hanging up on the input shaft collar.

If Beni's suggestions does not help, you are going to need to pull the trans off, and inspect the clutch items mentioned above.

Thanks for choosing FIxYa, we wish you the best of luck; let us know how it turns out.

Hello, and welcome to FixYa. Please allow me to assist you.

I had the exact same problem in my V6 Camry. The problem turned out to be bad clutch hydraulic cylinders. I replaced the clutch master cylinder (on the firewall) and the clutch slave cylinder (on the transaxlwe), the problem was eliminated.

Replace your clutch hydraulic cylinders, and you will be fixed right up.

Thanks for choosing FixYa for assistance today.

Car won't go into any gear

If a car won't go into any gear, it could be caused by a number of issues. Here are a few potential causes:
  1. Clutch or Transmission problems: The clutch or transmission may be damaged or worn, preventing the gears from engaging properly.
  2. Linkage problems: The linkage that connects the gearshift to the transmission may be damaged or out of adjustment, preventing the gears from engaging.
  3. Low fluid levels: Low fluid levels in the transmission can cause gears to slip or become difficult to engage.
  4. Electrical issues: An electrical problem with the gearshift or transmission control module can prevent the gears from engaging.
  5. Clutch Pedal: The clutch pedal may be malfunctioning and not releasing the clutch properly, preventing the gears from engaging.
It is important to identify the cause of the problem before attempting to fix it. If you are not comfortable with the diagnosis, I would recommend taking the car to a qualified mechanic or a transmission specialist for an accurate diagnosis and repair.

It Don't want to go at a red light

Red light means Stop, so it shouldn't have to go.
However, if the red light were defective and/or requiring traffic marshals to wave motorists through the intersection, then perhaps you should check up on the following:
1. Has the car switched off?
2. Is the idle (rev count) high enough to move the vehicle from a stopped state?
3. Is your hand/foot brake still engaged?
4. Is the vehicle in the correct gear (the typical gear to be in based on your gearbox type, may be 1, D or D1 ..for forward motion of the vehicle)
5. Is the clutch(if present) still pushed in? (this will prevent the selected gear from turning the engine)
6. If no clutch is present, you have an automatic transmission.. do you have enough transmission fluid?
If all of the above are in order, it might be that the gear you wish to use is faulty or borken, or your clutch plate is worn down too much (this can happen when you 'ride the clutch' a lot.. both will require attention which I can not talk you through via this medium. An auto shop should be consulted for further advice..

I have a 1992 gli twincam, everytime when I drive it and try to change to a lower gear when I clutch it,it switces off, I replaced another engin because I was told the engine is too old and the problem is...

check the operation of the safety switch on the clutch system . It is there to allow the engine to start when you have your foot on the clutch. It is a safety switch to prevent starting in gear That is the electrical circuit I would be testing as the problem is clutch position/ ignition related.

97 Saturn SL2 won't turn over

Check the neutral-saftey switch.  If it is a clutch, the starter will generally engage and the car will generally lurch forward.  Most newer cars are equiped with a switch that detects when the car is in-gear & wont permit it to turn over.  Could be the clutch but go for the cheap fix first.
