Said alternator was bad

Bad alternator means no battery charge. Run the battery down without a charging means no power and engine will die. Charge the battery and put a meter on it to see if it goes to 14 volts with engine running. If stays under 13 volts with engine running, replace the alternator.

Can alternator put out 14.2 volts but not enough amps to charge battery and turn off dattery light?

Yes and no.
It sounds like you have a wiring problem.
The alternator output could be 14 volts and only one or two amps, but that would be enough to kill the warning light. Its more likely the alternator is charging but the current is not reaching the battery.

Battery wont charge, battery/ABS/SRS/BRAKE lights come on while driving and flicker. voltage increases to dash lights/fan speed/headlights periodically.

Get a volt meter, start your car and see how many volts your car is producing while running. Should be around 14 volts. May want to watch the meter for a while since your electric seems to fluctuate. Most voltage regulators are internal of your alternator. If you are getting a lot more or less than 14 volts while running, replace the alternator. If it is not charging, voltage will drop as vehicle runs, until battery is dead.

The volt gauge reads 14 volts when the truck is running (2004 Chevy 2500 HD, 6 Liter) after I shut it off Voltage gauge reads 9 volts as low as the gauge goes. The starter acts like it is not getting...

14 volts is close (14.5-14.8 volts is required
and 9 when shut down indicates a bad battery
have it load tested and then have the alternator tested for rectifier pack operation
there should be 14.5 volts DC at the battery when running or it is not charging the battery
if you have 14 volts AC replace the alternator with a serviceable unit

Battery discharges in about 3 days if not run.

it may have deffective diode on the charging system(the alternator). 14 volts is an over charge in a battery. ampere reading must be on what the battery designed.

My battery is fully charged, the alternator is new. if i disconect the battery the truck will shut down....What do i need to check for???

First off, never disconnect battery when vehicle is running. It could stress out the alternator and blow the diodes. Now you need to put a volt meter on the battery while the vehicle is running to see if the alternator is putting out 14 volts. If its putting out 12 or less, you have likely blown the alternator. Remove alternator and have tested free at Orielys or napa. I dont trust autozone.

It sounds like your alternator might be starting to go bad and the Battery Light is coming on because it is not charging the battery correctly. Have your Alternator checked with a volt meter, it should be reading 13 to 14 volts if working correctly. If not, replace your alternator.

When i start my ram 2500 w a diesel, the gauge says it is charging fine. then i start driving, and the meter goes to 8 volts. i noticed the fuse that is in the power centre is blown. is this the caus eof...

Replace the fuse and check the wire from the alternator to the fuse for damage. Also check the batterys before you change the fuse and after with the truck running with a volt meter. After the fuse replacement the battery should read 14 to 15 volts. Also check the fluid level in the battery. If the cells are low you can put distilled water in them to bring them back up to proper level. Hope this will help you.

My 2000 ford ranger and something draining battery

bad alternator possible or bad battery..even though its new that battery can be bad. I would take a volt meter and with the engine running check the volts of the battery..If the volts are 12 you need to replace alternator, if volts are 14 you need to check the battery. to check the battery hold the volt meter to the battery and have someone start the car..while the starter is cranking battery volts should not drop below 10volts.if they do your battery is bad.
