VW Polo 2000 GTI wont start no spark

Changed broken clutch cable, spent long time under dash connecting clutch cable to pedal, have checked wiring under dash nothing appears to have been unplugged same under bonnet. While threading clutch cable along bulkhead think I heard low voltage buzztowards front of engine bay, assume cable threaded rod end (attaches to clutch leaver on gearbox housing) made contact - didn't notice sparks or see wot contact was made. Any suggestions, also should the EPC light be on when ignition is switched on as does not light up?

First make sure you do a basic tune-up on the car i.e. replacing spark plug wires, spark plugs, distributor cap, rotor button, etc. Secondly, the plugs are probably just wet from fuel from not starting. The low oil pressure light coming on is normal when trying to start the car. Make sure to check for codes too and don't press the accelerator when starting the car, otherwise it will flood the engine.

SOURCE: 2002 VW Polo - EPC Light and Loss of Power

Hi,
It is a wiring fault, but they are looking on the wrong end. You will need to have a VW dealer "repin" the electrical connector at the throttle body. What this means is, the dealer will take apart the connector, cut off the old pins and crimp on new ones and reassemble the connector. This is a common problem on drive by wire VW's. The dealer has a bulletin on the problem and I don't know why they missed it. They will probably have to order the connector kit however. Good luck!

SOURCE: EPC Light on , VW dies when stopping

Tell him to clean the electrical connector at the throttle body with 90% rubbing alcohol. He may want to use a nylon brush on the contact pins while cleaning. I'm pretty sure the car needs a throttle adaptation performed also. Find a shop with a Vag Com scanner, they can do it for you.

Our 2002 vw gti 4 cylinder doesnt want to start. there is oil around the spark plug cylinder and the car turns over. We changed the crankshaft sensor a week ago due to it dying out, the problem actually...

Take the distributor cap off, crank the engine, see if the rotor turns.
Put it back together.
Remove the center ignition wire from the distributor cap, put the end of the wire within a quarter inch from metal ground, crank the engine, look for a spark.
The engine needs compassion, fuel, and spark to run. Check one thing at a time

Clutch pedal box has snapped off its mounting on vw polo

1-disconnect battery. 2- remove all lower dash plastic panels. 3- disconnect all plugs on steering coloumn. 4- remove shear bolts on steering coloumn, easy with a long 8" sharp chisel (get 2 x new shear bolts £0.50p each). 5-loosen & remove bolt at steering rack in drivers footwell, mark position of spline before removing this makes it east to refit (tipex). 6- pull steering coloumn out towards you & it will slide off the bush quite easy. 7- loosen clutch cable adjustment & remove cable nipple at pedal. 8-remove clutch pedal. 9- pull brake pedal out of plastic insert, this will break there is no way to remove this without breaking the plastic clip. get a new brake pedal clip insert for a Mk 3 golf £4 its the same (dont let VW sell you a new pedal) 10- remove 5 x nuts holding pedal box to bulkhead/brake servo. 11- cut 2 x cable ties holding throttle wiring & disconnetc plug above heater on drivers side. 12- push/pull brake servo slightly out of bulk head. 13- remove pedal box.
Cause of the problem- The clutch bracket is only held to the pedal box with 2 x spot welds & a 10mm tack on the top corner.
Repair- Fully Weld the clutch bracket to the pedal box. Great repair.
refitting reverse of above.
Duration around 6/8 hours Less if you get the spare parts before you start.
I wasted time trying to remove the brake pedal without breaking the clip impossible to do even with theVW tool. £4 on a new clip is well worth it.

Clutch noise and stiffness

it sounds like your clutch release bearing has or is colapsing.when you press the clutch the release bearing is under the most load hence the noise.gearbox out i,m afraid. Can you still get gears ok ?.Also the pedal box,s are prone to break on polo,s ,the symptom for that is like a squashy pedal and hard to get gears.if you can look up at the top of the clutch pedal where the cable mounts see if the bracket the cable fits in to is broken away at the top.

Clutch

There is a spring on the pedal up under the dash, if this has come undone then the pedal may not be able to come back up to the normal position. The spring connects directly to the pedal and to a bracket under the dash.
