Dealer analysis did not solve, dodge tech said he could spend another 2 to 3 hours to find the problem. cost me $115.00 for no help, couldn't tell me if it was switch in the door, computer cluster or shorted wire. When it went bad the power tailgate was the last to respond. Any advice will be appreciated.
Maybe!!!! Wire taps are not a good thing. But yes I do them also... Kinda a catch 22! But the bad thing about wire taps are that they carode the exposed wires. Recheck the conections where you made the connection. If it breaks contact then the locks might not work. Or if the conection at that point is grounding out and blowing your relay or fuse. But if your tailgate lock still operated when all others did not then chances are that one of the door switches is bad. after you recheck your wires, disconnect the battery for about 10 to 15 minutes. If it is the relay then that should let it cool off and reset itself long enough to work or atleast hear a click out of the locks when you power up again. LISTEN CLOSELY FOR THE CLICK. Have someone inside of the car and up by the front of the car and this will increase the chance to hear it. You do not need the key on for the test because the locks have power all of the time. Good luck and let me know.
Check the wiring harness that goes to the driver door, pull the rubber molding in the door jam back and give a little tug on each one of the wires, that harness is very common in those trucks to have wires break.
The problem is your instrument cluster it has the door lock moduler attached to the back replace it and that will fix it,if not replace or have the cluster repaired

Yes, I added it with the RETRAX topper. Everything worked perfectly for 1 1/2 years. I unplugged the tailgate lock with no result; I also checked the splice to the wiring harness.
Thanks for your resonse.
The tailgate lock came with specific instructions for which color coded wires to tap. The tailgate is original equipment.
is the tailgate an add on...what is it wired to
