Is there anything right with my car?! First of all for some time when I turn on the engine I get this screeching sound? Is that something to do with the cam belt?!! I don't actually no what that is. Or what functions it has! Last night I also realized how dark the interior of my car was, to then realize the dashboard lights were out! I tried turning my car on and off and thinking that my lights weren't on... but they were, so the dashboard lights are out for sure and also, I got out my car to check my exterior lights and the rear have gone? Is the light situation possibly connected? I thought maybe the fuse had gone, so I need to check that but don;t know what I'm looking for or what I need to actually do?! Also within the last few days I have found that my car has seemed to struggle a bit, it seems especially when I change gears? If I'm stationery and try and pull off, it's as if I'm trying to pull off in a higher gear, that sort of pulling feeling? It also did it again last night when I were doing a three point turn and put the car into reverse. Would really appreciate any feedback!!

you can't just look at the fuses. buy a fuse tester, usually 10 bucks or so at any parts store. then you can properly check all the fuses. chances are that's what it is, but you have to check it the right way. find the bad one, and replace it. the people at the auto store should be able to help a little. hope that helps.

Check the black plug sticking out of the engin cover, not making good contact, clean it and put back plug, disconnect battery and reconnect again it should work fine.

This is really weird, I've just gone back out to my car and turned on the engine and lights and now the dashboard is working and so are my rear lights?! I'm a little bit baffled?!
Well that was quick :) I just phoned the Kia garage, the car is still inside it's 3 year warranty, described the problem and they knew immediately what the cause is. Seems like we are not the only Kia owners to have this fault. It's cauded by by a gadget called the 'Timer and Alarm' unit. They've ordered one and it's being fitted next week.
This happened to me, I now just take the key out, put it back in and all lights work
