Engine light came on i cant figure out what the problem is

So after 35 years of having vehicle check lights,
we all get on our dash,your lost & have no clue,
what to do?

Your going to need to tell us why you can't figure it out

You need to actualy do someone, to even make the statement

have some one put a obd code reader on that i cant think of what would cause it to flash 9times and dont start

You know those dash check lights have been on all
vehicles for 32 years,so not to know what to do
seems odd

A battery light has been on for months
That says you don't care & is on the verge
of abuse

To have any type of mechanic in the family
& you not having the car checked for codes
& properly diagnosed,leaves me at a loss

Use a Auto Scanner tool,fallow step by step reading process,take note witch code number "show" as defective,possible sensor fail, after replaces erase code using your Auto Scanner.Do it the same if another code number come out.

Unless you have a code checker with a reset switch, the easiest way to reset the light is just to remove the negative battery terminal for several minutes. That will usually do it.

Also, you don't actually need a code checker to pull the codes. With the engine shut off, you can quickly turn the key back and forth twice between the OFF and RUN positions. On the third switch from off to run leave it in the run position. The engine light will flash one or more two-digit codes. For example, if the light blinks twice, then pauses, then blinks three more times that's error code 2-3.

ODB II code reader will need to be use to determin the issue. They can be purchased at automative stores, or some auto parts stores will read it for free, as then they can sell your parts needed

Check the engine control unit itself and the ignition module.

the vsc light comes on when ever the check engine light comes on, this is because the vsc cant operate correctly when engine isnt running right so computer shuts it down and light turns on, you need to have the computer scanned for codes to figure out why check engine light came on,the codes that are stored will point you in the right direction of the problem, autozone and other auto part stores will scan for free,

the check engine light comes on whenever one or more of about 200 faults occur in the electronic engine or emmision controls, the only way to determine which system is causeing the problem is to have the system computer tested for the trouble code(s) that is stored when the light is turned on by the computer, which is known as the PCM

ok dizzydean, u need to have the engine codes read. Most parts stores will do this for free, and will explain what could be wrong. They will plug a scan tool into a plug under your dash to read codes stored in the cars computer.

Take it to AutoZone - they'll scan your car's computer for free. Then you can post the codes up here and we can figure out the problem.
