Hi there:
DTC P0172 - System Too Rich (Bank 1)
Basically this means that an oxygen sensor in bank 1 detected a rich
condition (too little oxygen in the exhaust). On V6/V8/V10 engines, Bank
1 is the side of the engine that has cylinder #1.
Note: This DTC is very similar to P0175, and in fact your vehicle may show both codes at the same time.
You will more than likely not notice any drivability problems, although there may be symptoms such as a misfire.
A code P0172 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
The MAF (Mass Air Flow) Sensor is dirty or faulty. Note: The use of
"oiled" air filters can cause the MAF to become dirty if the filter is
over-oiled. There is also an issue with some vehicles where the MAF
sensors leak the silicone potting material used to protect the
circuitry.
There could be a vacuum leak.
There could be a fuel pressure or delivery problem
Possible solutions include:
Inspect all vacuum and PCV hoses, replace if necessary
Cleanthe MAF sensor. Consult your service manual for it's location
if you need help. I find it's best to take it off and spray it with
electronics cleaner or brake cleaner. Make sure you are careful not to
damage the MAF sensor, and make sure it's dry before reinstalling
Inspect fuel lines for cracks, leaks, or pinches
Check the fuel pressure at the fuel rail
Check the fuel injectors, they may be dirty. Use fuel injector cleaner or get them professionally cleaned/replaced.
Check for an exhaust leak before the first oxygen sensor (this is unlikely to cause the problem, but it is possible)
Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback
is important and

SOURCE: Check engine light. got 2 codes P0172 and p0175.
Unclip the 02 harness, then take out the 02 sensor. 5 minute job.

Track the p0340 first camshaft timing is very important and could possibly cayse your other codes,Call your local GMC dealer I think I remember a bulletin about this code.

Hey. How many miles on it. If over 100,000, it may need new O2 sensors but unlikely both would go out of spec at the same time. You will need to install a scan tool with data stream abilitys. The pressure regulator could be ruptured which will drastically richen up both banks. If no tool, locate the pressure regulator, usually on the right side at the end of fuel rail. Make sure the vacuum line is attached and pulls vacuum. Unhook the line. The motor should sound very different and then correct itself when hooking the line back up. If there is no vacuum at the line, check for a broken or cracked area. Never overlook the simple stuff. Also need to check coolant temp sensor accuracy. It can be in tolerance but still read incorrect coolant temp. There are numerous other items that will cause a rich condition but check these first. TJ.

Sensor is located passenger side of the intake and mounts facing the firewall .It takes a torx bit to remove .NOT a philips as screw is hard to see from the front.I use a bit with a 1/4 in socket as a full size screwdriver will not fit.Remove screw and use a set of pliers to twist and pull back.
