My 1996 Olds LSS doesn't idle properly, idling surges sometimes, the temp. gauge doesn't work and sometimes the heater doesn't work.It may stall while driving. If I get in and the power seats won't work or the power windows won't work I know the car will turn over but not start. We have replaced the main computer, the idle control sensor, the crankshaft position sensor, checked all the fuses.Presently there is no fire to the fuel pump[which is also new] and no power to the windows or power seats and will not start.

Your first problem is to find out why the intermittent no-power problem. Honestly, that sounds like a loose conmnection somewhere. check all your grounds for clean and tight conditions Also, battery connections and alternator connections. Double check your power distribution center for any loose wires or poor connections. Once you solve that problem, then you can diagnose the other problems with poor idle and temp. gauge.

The temp gauge will go up due to the added load of the AC on the cooling system, and as long as it doesn't overheat you are fine. I would have the system checked for a low charge, the symptom,s fit. You will need gauges and then the pressures tested to find out what the system charge is doing.

I have a 1996 Oldsmobile LSS. Where should the temp gage read at idle? Mine sits at about 200, which seems high.

As long as you are not going into the red section you are fine. Most GM cars normal operating temperature is between 190 and 220 or so. Depends which engine you have.
