First and foremost, has anyone VERIFIED that the CAUSE is the fuel pump? Hard starting has NUMEROUS possible causes -- wiring, connectors, sensors (MAF, MAP, TPS, APS, ETS Motor, IAT, ECT, CKP, CMP, etc.), injectors, timing, air flow, fuel pressure, contaminated fuel, vacuum leaks, Powertrain Control Module (PCM - garbage in memory - adaptives), The more sofisticated the technology, the more COMPLEX the diagnosis. It seems you have an INTERMITTENT malfunction in one (or more) EMS (Engine Management System) components. The only way to diagnosis this is when that particular component acts up! My first suspicion is the MAF (Mass Air Flow Sensor w/Intake Air Temperature Sensor-IAT and/or the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor. The possibility also exists that the technician who examined/inspected your vehicle wasn't the swiftest of mechanics - meaning he/she didn't fully understand what they were looking at/testing. Hyundai Shop Manuals aren't the best either. There's no possible way for me to DIAGNOSE your problem without PHYSICALLY examining your vehicle. SEVERAL SOLUTIONS: You can educate yourself regarding the systems installed on your vehicle & attempt to fix it yourself -- Go to
http://www.hmaservice.com/ and register (vehicle by VIN). Afterward, you'll have access to technical information (manuals, wiring diagrams, service bulletins, etc) about your vehicle. OR, you can take the vehicle back to the Hyundai Service Center (dealership), and tell them to FIX IT! OR, hire an attorney & file a lawsuit. The latter being the last resort.
