I just had a new fuel pump installed in my truck.

Yes it is possible, you might need a coil or module. the module can be checked at the parts store(Call first to see if they have the equipment) The coil can be checked with an ohm meter. you will need the numbers for the resistance on the primary and secondary leads of the coil. If those numbers are out of range replace the coil. I would also check the fuel pressure. I have put in new pumps before and had to change them as soon as the next day. I only get my pumps from napa or speedway. OEM. Good luck

Will a 87 ford ranger v6 4 wheel drive trans. fit

If automatic transmission wont work engine block's are not the same, if stander transmission you could swap out bell housing held on with four bolt's from one to the other. Good luck and hope this was very helpful.

Where is the in-line spout

On the 86 its in one of the harnesses towards/around the battery. Generally the spout connector is located near the ignition module (generic location). Some referential images...

zjlimited_1746.jpg_zjlimited_1747.jpg

On early Fords, these were mounted right on the side of the dizzy... later models up near the core support (for better cooling). As you can see, the spout connector is a jumper that simply unplugs... taking active control of ignition timing away from the ignition module.

Also, juts liek a sample, I quote other comments from Ford owners...

I had trouble finding mine too. my 86 didn't have one. I traced the yellow wire with a green tracer in it from the dist. to the batt side. Iit had a **** splice in it half way were some body cut it to set the timeing. i put in a splice that can be unhooked easy.mine will run when that is disconnected.
END.

Also, there have additional details: tech_library/TFI_Diagnostic.html

Hope this helps.

86 Ford Ranger 2.3L TurboDiesel won't start

This sounds like your problem.....Try this, only takes 5 minutes and probably whats wrong. The same thing happened to me, it was running perfect and died. There's something called an Inertia switch (google how to find it) the older rangers and bronco II's have them. It may think you have gotten in a accident and this device stops the fuel pumps. I literally pressed the reset button on the top of it and my truck started right back up after not being able to start at all.

My 86 ranger won't crank. Seems like fuel pump is

Ensure the battery has a full charge, then have someone stand by the fuel tank filler. Turn on the key, listening for the pump to run. If not heard, check for blown fuel pump fuse and/or bad fuel pump relay.

I currently own a 1986 Ford Ranger 2.9 V6, RW

I just checked you do indeed have a timing belt.
Sounds like the problem, worth the cost and time to change the water pump as well since your digging into the front of the engine anyway.
The tensioner should be good for another 100,000 miles
