No, sorry. Release bearings are sealed. They need to be replaced. So, here is what needs attention: Since it is so difficult to get in to the release bearing, you MUST also consider replacing the Pilot bearing, centered in the flywheel (it has the same file as the release bearing.). Unless the clutch is practically new and you have had no chatter, REPLACE with a good quality rebuilt. The flywheel would like to be resurfaced. When this is all done, be certain to adjust for free play. Very important to have some free travel, in order to have release bearing longevity.

It really sounds like the starter to me..Alot of time i have seen this happen simlpy because heat shield keeping exhaust heat away from starter is off..This would only be the case if your car is set up that way and on that model and make i dont know.
