My wd 1000 gb external harddrive, when plugged into my lap top, the screen will only show all my songs and movies up to the letter p. i even tried it on another laptop and it did the same thing. now i hook...

you might need to create folders eg folder name a_to_f_files and copy the files the start their names from a to f and do the same for g to l with a folder named G_to_L
There is a limit on the number of files you can have in the root directory in Windows so by creating a folder you split it up and windows sees less files in one folder or in the root directory

I have a 500GB my book essential edition external harddrive and i am only able to access 10GB of my space, please help

while you only have 10 gig of space "used?" take what you have off the drive and use the disk that came with your WD MYBook and reformat the drive into "2" drives..........Depending what OS (operating software) you are using some have a limitation to show the correct amount this is why I would suggest that you split the drive into sections or just reformat and see what you get

Western Digital MYBOOK 500GB external harddrive won't come on. When it plugs in, the blue light comes on for about a second. Computer does not recognize drive.

It is "dead". If it is still under warranty (check 'www.wdc.com' for details), then Western Digital will replace it. If not, check their web-site, for their "Customer Loyalty Program", i.e., since you bought one W.D. disk-drive, you can get a discount on buying another W.D. disk-drive, if you order online from W.D.'s web-site.

Wdc 320 gig MyBook external hd is not recognized anymore. I have attempted to access the files on several different computers (laptops). The HD is powered on (light is on). I do hear a clicking sound when...

If you hear a clicking sound then that might be the sound of a defective harddrive. You could try removing the harddrive from the case and installing it directly into the computer to see if it is working. If it does then it could be the hard drive case power supply is defective. But the clicking sounds like a defective drive. If it is still under warranty then you could get it repaired by western digital...if it is still under warranty then do not open the case or you could void it.

E:/ Access is Denied

this might start by some virus which have put an autorun file on ur harddrive. the best option to fix this problem is just format the harddrive or the partion on which u r having this problem. or else u have to searchon ur harddrive that weather there is any autorun.ini file is prset or not if it is there then just delete it.

221 GB Free on MyBook - Error states not enough space for backup

It may be due to the file system.  If formated as FAT32 files larger than 4gb may not transfer.  Try reformatting as NTFS to fix the problem.

Need this to work

Is it a network drive try unplug it for at least a minute and see
if it reconnects and if you can access the setup through
the browser ....depending on your network addresses.
You also might be able to mount it through a linux machine
since the file system is different.
Last resort is expensive and that is professional data recovery
hope it works for you
