This procedure will work usually unless there has been an alterations to the originally installed OS on the Acer. On recent Acer computers they have a hidden volume on the disk labeled PQService.
This volume is for restoring the computer to the factory settings in same condition as purchased new. It will erase everything currently on the main hard drive.

Step 1: Backup everything that is important to you, on a disk or separate hard drive.
This includes any documents, pictures and application installers.

Step 2: Reboot the system and press ALT-F10 during the POST to start the Acer eRecovery Management and reinstall the operating system.

Step 3: Select Restore system to factory default.

Step 4: The wizard will lead you through formatting the designated drive and installing the operating system from the computer hard drive to the designated drive.

Hi,
You need to hit alt + F10 at the same time during boot up to activate the recovery. If it doesn't work still, then you need to request for a recovery disc from Acer.

Hi,

You can launch the recovery option by pressing 'F10' on startup, or if that fails, you can do a system recovery from the ACER EManagement 'Backup and Restore' option in Windows itself.

Ok i was tryin to reboot my laptop but now all im getting is bootmgr is missing i dont know what to do can some one help me with this please

You can try to Repair your Windows using the Windows installation CD (for Repair choose R when prompted). You can let the automatic repair to try and fix it, if that doesn't work upon restart reboot and start the Repair again, but this time select Command Prompt or Console and put in "bootrec /rebuildbcd" without the quotes. If you don't have Windows installation CD you can try downloading Hiren's Boot CD and try to fix the bootmgr with the utilities from the disc: http://www.hirensbootcd.org/download/

I just receiver recovery and system disc from Acer to restore my laptop to factory settings. I tried couple times and followed the instructions. The recovery disc formatted partition 2 on the computer but...

Looks like your recovery cd is corrupted. You must obtain a copy of Ms Windows cd and install it using the license from the back of your laptop. If that doesn't work either its a hardware related (hdd) problem.

I need to know how to avtivate the system restore for the computer for a ACER ASPIRE 4520 sincei dont have the disc??

This recovery process helps you restore the C: drive with the original software
content that is installed when you purchase your notebook. Follow the steps
below to rebuild your C: drive. (Your C: drive will be reformatted and all data
will be erased.) It is important to back up all data files before using this option.
Before performing a restore operation, please check the BIOS settings.
1 Check to see if Acer disk-to-disk recovery is enabled or not.
2 Make sure the D2D Recovery setting in Main is Enabled.
3 Exit the BIOS utility and save changes. The system will reboot.
Note: To activate the BIOS utility, press <F2> during POST.
To start the recovery process:
1 Restart the system.
2 While the Acer logo is showing, press <Alt> + <F10> at the same time to
enter the recovery process.
3 Refer to the onscreen instructions to perform system recovery.
