YOUR MODE SWITCH IS SET TO VIDEO AND WHAT YOU ARE TAKING ARE ACTUALLY SHORT VIDEO CLIPS, INSTEAD OF PICTURES! IF YOU WANT TO TAKE PHOTOGRAPHS YOU NEED TO RESET THE MODE SWITCH TO A SETTING OTHER THAN VIDEO. SOMETHING LIKE SCENERY, FLOWERS,PEOPLE, ETC. YOU SHOULD SEE THESE ON THE MODE SWITCH, YOU MAY ALSO GO ONLINE TO SONY DSC-W50 AND VIEW THE USER MANUAL AND STUDY THE DIFFERENT MODES OF PHOTOS. Sony dsc-w55 takes at least 3.5 - 4 seconds to take a shot. I'm missing way too many shots. I have a 2 GB mem card in that's virtually empty. Ideas?

you should have turned on the timer!!!
at the back side of your cam near the lcd screen, you should be able to see a small button with the clock symbol on it.
press it when you are ready to take a shot.you will be able to see the time delay in taking the shots varying from 2 sec to 5 sec etc.
press it continuously until it comes to zero!!!

Delay when taking picture

2 things to be checked to rectify this delay.
what size of memory stick you are using. 1GB is fine, 2GB slower the camera and 4GB is more then enough.
Check memory stick, is it full with files? try to make more free space in memory stick.
perform "intialization" by selecting in camera menu.
Good luck.

Its not taking the picture

Hi

It sounds like your lens is jammed and needs to be repaired or replaced and thats why you can't take a picture.

I know a place that can install a new lens in your camera for a very affordable price, just search 'darntoothysam' on Google and you will find it.

Sonyy w55 flash works but shot come really dark

Press Menu button
togle across from REC Mode to setup
togle down thrice from camera to setup 1
togle across into sub menu
togle down from four times to Initialize
togle across again to the sub-menu
togle up from cancel to OK
press center button to accept the OK choice
Screen changes and so press okay again
It should restart the camera
Opening on the 'Clock Set' screen
togle down to cancel and use the camera and make sure that you have the camera to flash, if it works try again in the Auto function.
If it is still not working do not worry follow the steps again two or three more times, As this is generally a software error message and not a hardware malfunction.
If it is working then don't forget to set your Clock.

My husband just discovered that it has to do with the flash setting. When the auto-flash and flash-on modes are on, it doesn't do it. When the "SL" mode is on - I get the Vibration Warning.
