How do I fix Fan Blower motor on my Sunpentown WA9000E?

I have an older Sunpentown WA9000E portable AC unit. Never had a porblem until recently..One day, the blower motor for the fan stopped working or works very weakly. When this happens, it spins the wrong way in reverse... The AC compressor DOES come on no problem. After taking the sides off, I found that if I give the fan blower squirrel cage a spin by hand in the correct directrion, it spins up and works fjust fine.
Please tell me what is wrong and how do I fix it? I already got a replacement unit, but I still need to fix this one and use it elsewhere.
Cost for repair is not an issue unless more than a replacemnt unit.

If the blower is made of plastic it does not have a set screw. You most likely need a new squirrel cage. They are formed to the shaft and have a compression ring that holds them in place.

SOURCE: Air conditioner/furnace squirrel cage fan remains running when th

probably the fan switch stuck on the fan combination control or improperly adjusted. Turn power off, remove red wire on the relay from the fan motor. Isolate so no short will happen and turn power on.The motor should not run. The fan relay could stick also. You will have to use a volt meter and see if there is voltage on the coil terminals on the fan relay. Put 1 lead to ground and touch only the terminal for the coil on the relay with the other meter lead.It should not have 120volts. If it does it is not the fan relay but possibly a limit sending power to the relay. Try that first thank you J

SOURCE: Squirrel cage installation.

If there is strong air flow blowing into the house the sq. cage should be OK. Possibly you need to replace the pads and make sure that the pump is not clogged and is distributing enough water to keep the pads wet.

Might be a dirty filter, a burnt compressor wire or a bad capacitor. Or it could be a bad thermostat.

Why did SPT Portable Air Conditioner stopped blowing cold air?

Unit needs to be taken apart and washed out , also check to see if motor turns freely by hand , clean base of unit fans / blowers and drain ports / channels . Check outdoor motor to see if bearings are tight or fan overheats and cuts off if so replace outdoor motor .

Low and medium speed fan for ac does not come on, while high speed fan works. 2000 1500 dodge van, had new condensor unit under dash replaced recently.

Blower motor resistor needs replacing. Follow wires from blower motor to connector, which should be the resistor. Usually in duct work, held in by 2 small screws.

The AC unit up in the attic became very noisy few days ago. My husband went up the attic and he said the noise is comming from the fan it shakes very bad once the ac is on. What do you think that is the...

I would check the bearing on the fan motor .You can try to move blower back and forth and if it moves more than about 1/8 inch then you may need to replace the motor. Check the mounting bolts that hold squirrel cage in placeAlso check the bolt or set screw that holds blower to motor shaft to make sure it is not letting the blower move when the motor is running. I would clean the fan and motor as well as you can and oil motor if it has oil ports. Hope this helps you. Thanks

I do not have a problem but I am considering purchasing the WA 1220M portable ac unit for ta small telephone/data room. The room is approximately 72 square feet. The unit would need to run 24x7. Can...

You can use it but be prepared to replace it every year or two. These portable units are not designed to have a 100% duty cycle. The first thing to go is usually the fan. The power requirements will need to be a dedicated 120 VAC 20 amp service. These things run at about 12-13 amps on high, so a dedicated service would be best

Inside blower not starting every time

You have a voltage bleed somewhere or a short, whatever you want to call it. Do you have a control board on this unit where the relays are integrated into it or do you have the old type where the relay is separate? Anyway, you need to take a meter and take voltage readings to the motor when it's acting up and when it's running right. I have had the same problem with a Goodman unit before and it turned out to be the tstat! What I would do is remove the cover off the tstat and take a small jumper wire and touch the r terminal to the y terminal. If the motor starts right up, you know it's the tstat. If you have the same problem, then the only thing it can be is a low voltage short to the unit from the tstat, bad control board if you have one, or a bad relay. But if the unit is working fine in heat, it's probably not the relay. I hope this helps.

Whirlpool portable AC, compressor works, but no exhaust fan

there are 3 possiblities
  1. something obstructing the lower fan motor (or exhaust motor)
  2. bad fan capacitor
  3. or bad motor
to check any of these you will need to disassemble the unit to get to the blower. there are several screws located at various points on the plastic housing covering the unit. Once removed you should be able to check for motor obstructions visually. for checking the motor and capacitor you will need a volt/ohm meter and ideally a capacitor checker. you could try to spin start the motor while it is powered up this could be a possible sign of a bad capacitor if it will start when you do this or if the motor will spin freely while powered down and will not spin start when powered up. I know that is kind of confusing but its how they work. GO FIGURE.  thanks Peyton
