Heater will not work

Today the heat system on my toyota avalon 98 failed. There are lights on the dash which show if the air is going to come in fresh or circulate. That light did not light. The blower did not work. And the outside temp guage which always works upon start up did not work.

I think this may be a fuse problem, but I have no clue which fuse is the right one to check. There is no chart available to me.
Anyone know what to do?
Thanks.

    Do you have "automatic A/C"?

If so, the problem that you are describing may require the replacement of the A/C amplifier. But, further diagnosis would be in order before I went out & bought one; they are quite expensive.

Hey Toyota Ed.

My problem solved itself. After driving the car a few times, with several re-starts of the engine, suddenly everything worked. This does not lend to a confident driver, because at anytime it can happen again, but for now I can't fix what isn't broken. Thanks for the offer of help, anyway.

Correct Operating Coolant Temp

Toyota Nation Forum https://www.toyotanation.com > threads > correct-oper...
Jan 26, 2021 - It should be around 185-190F. Buying OEM, it usually comes with a gasket. You'll need to drain the coolant, so it's a good time for a flush.

I think you have air in the cooling system, perhaps even a stuck thermostat, or a heater valve that isn't opening. Start with burping all the air out.

Avalon heater

it sounds like a " blend air door " inside the heater box is either broken or the servo that control's it is not working unfortunately to get to it you need to take the dash out to get the heater box out

1998 toyota avalon heat blows..but blows out cool??? any suggestions

this is going to sound silly, but check you coolant level... if the level is ok, you will have to check to see that the blend door is operation properly. the blend door is located inside the box on the passenger side of the dash. also, check the switch that lets you go from hot to cold....

My 98 toyota avalon dashboard light sensor is on. I checked all my lights and they are working. Is there any light that I should check?

Pull the rear bulbs out an inspect them for dark marks on the glass or abnormalities in the filament.
A bulb that works but is on the verge of failing will trigger the indicator on the dash as well.
Failing that, the lamp failure module is very common to fail, triggering the light as well. You can pry the box lid off and usually see burn marks on the circuit board when this happens.
The lamp failure module is located behind the left rear tire area in the trunk.

I have a 1998 toyota avalon xls the heat and a/c stop working

See toyota technical service bulliten AC005-99.
This is a expensive repair but if you just unplug the the air inlet servo motor(behind the glove box )
the air should start to work but without fresh/recirc control.

I have a 98 toyota Avalon. The fuse for the dome keeps blowing

I'd look for a direct short, possibly a bare wire that has rubbed insulation off.

Start at the lamp socket first and any switch that might be located at the dome light itself, see if you see anything.

Next I'd check the door switches and then selector switch on the dash.

After that, it's going to be trracing wires, not an easy job.

What could cause the heating to pack up in my 98 corolla?

Try it again today, if no heat, move back & forth from cold to hot, and bang with hand, under dash on passenger side where heater duct work is and wait a few seconds. Blend/air door may be stuck.
