How to buy a Used Desktop Computer?

Refurbished / used Desktop

If you're looking to save money buying a used or refurbished computer can save you a lot of money. A refurbished computer is a computer that has been returned to the company has been checked out as good but cannot be sold again as new. All major computer manufacturers will have a refurbished section showing all their available refurbished products. Buying one of these computers instead of a new computer can save you hundreds of dollars.

In addition to refurbished computers individuals and companies for various reasons will also sell their used computers. When buying these look out for the following.

  • Verify it has no physical damage by inspecting the ports as well as the inside and the outside of the case.
  • Make sure you're getting what you pay for. See the below scam section for additional details.
  • Make sure computer comes with any CD's for the operating systems or programs that are promised to be installed.
  • Realize that many computer manufacturers will not transfer the computer warranty from the old user to you.

Are refurbished Xerox 7760 imaging drums safe to use?

Refurbished imaging drums can be a good option to save money, but it is important to purchase them from a reputable source to ensure they are of good quality and safe to use. Some refurbished parts may not be manufactured to the same standards as new parts, which can affect the performance and lifespan of your printer.
When purchasing refurbished imaging drums, look for sellers who offer a warranty or guarantee on the product. This can provide added peace of mind and protection in case the drum fails prematurely. Additionally, be sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions for installation and maintenance to ensure optimal performance and avoid any potential issues.

Need to upgrade a Pentium 4 - LGA775 socket to something faster?

First of all, no matter what, you'll need more memory (preferably 4gb). Having said that, the computer came out in 2007 and is 5 years old. Considering how old all your components are (video card, hard drives, etc.), I would recommend replacing the whole things. Truthfully, even if you fix one bottleneck, there will be many more bottlenecks to fix. You can find a good computer that would destroy your current one for around $400. If you need to use a smaller computer, you are better off getting a laptop for around $400 or less. If you want to save some money, you can go to geeks.com. They sell discount and refurbished computers relatively cheap. As an example you buy a refurbished Asus laptop for $349 (see link).

Shop around and you will see many laptops at low prices. My recommendations as a starting point are:
  • i3 Intel processor or greater
  • 4gb-6gb of RAM
  • 250gb hard drive or greater
  • Windows 7 x64
Hope this information helps. Good luck.

Gateway DX4300-22 problems????

No problems. It's a refurbished unit because a lot of people bought it as a gaming machine - which definitely isn't - and returned it when they realized that for serious gaming the needed upgrades were more expensive than the pc itself.
For a general use home pc it's perfect and the price is good. Buy it.

Should I buy Refurbished or used hard drive ( Seagate Momentus SATA 160Gb) to save some money? Any experience on that?

it's okay to buy refurbished hard drive as long as there's a minimum of 3-5 days warranty so can have the time to check if there's any error on the hard drive....
