1999 cavalier hard starting if hold gas pedal to floor it will eventually start.

check throttle position sensor

if the car is fuel injected, holding the gas pedal to the floor will actually cut off your fuel injectors - which may make it worse. You need to check fuel pressure, you want to make sure the fuel pump isn't bad. Also, check your battery.

Try this-- The next time you start the car, hold the pedal down to the floor. If it starts, Then you have a flooding problem. hold it there for 30 seconds. Then while still holding the pedal to the floor, try to start the car. Hard to say on pc. If above does not work, see or call saturn dealer to see if anyone else is having the same problem. Fuel pressure for your car should be 50/60 psi you probably need a new fuel pump.

sounds like the fuel pressure regulator is leaking down

IT DEFFO SOUNDS LIKE LACK OF FUEL, BUT FOR IT NOT TO RUN AT ALL UNLESS THROTTLE IS FULLY OPEN DOESN'T SOUND LIKE AN INJECTOR, MORE LIKE NO FUEL AT ALL, LIKE THE PUMP IS KNACKERED. PULL OUT AN INJECTOR, PUT IT IN A GLASS JAR, THEN TRY AND START IT, IT SHOULD GIVE A BIG POWERFUL SQUIRT OF FUEL, TRY ALL THE INJECTORS ONE AT A TIME, BECAUSE ITS QUITE RARE FOR ALL THE INJECTORS TO GO AT TE SAME TIME
