Whistling soung from engine

I have a whistling sound coming from the engine anytime I am not accelerating. This is constant as soon as I start the engine. No leaks are apparent, however, I also seem to be losing coolant over a 3 month period. Suggestions?

Has the whistling sound always been there because if could just be the AC compressor. try turning of the ac and see if the sound goes away. as for the coolant leak, run your car in your driveway for awhile then look underneath to check for coolant puddles, don't be thrown off by the puddle that your evaporator drain will make. you'll be able to smell the difference

Take a look at the belt see if it has cracks or worn grooves.. if it dose have it replaced. if it doesn't pull on the belt back and forth see if the tension pully is giving the belt tension( it supposed to be about 1/2 of an inche to an inch or try to turn the belt around to almost half way) if not replace the tensioner pully. if good check the free pully by starting the car and spary a bit of wd40 on the center of the pully if noise disappers replace the free pully. if not see ur local auto shop..

It's possible you may have a bad PCV valve. While engine is running and producing the sqeaky noise, loosen oil filler cap to relieve any pressure that has built up, to see if noise goes away...
also run engine until noise is apparent, then turn off engine and loosen oil filler cap, listen for excessive pressure. If so, probably PCV Valve

Sounds like air is shooting out when accelerating. Could this be an exhaust leak? Plugs, coils, hoses seem fine. Noise is coming from passenger side under engine sounds like.

yes could very well be an exhaust leak.but that should be kinda loud and annoying..also u could have a slight whistling sound coming from ur air intake hose coming from air cleaner box to ur intake or throttle body or ur air inlet goin to the motor. when the motor is accelerated it would produce a high pitch sound like a whistling .hope this can help

Whistling sound when stepping on accelerator 4m40

I don't know if this is the right place.
But I have a 98 Pajero 4m40. It starts and idles nicely, but upon acceleration, engine sounds terrible, almost like a non turbo L200 engine, even with the intercooler connected and turbo whistling. Please help.

2002 merc cougar 2.5 liter has loud whistling

Sounds like a vacuume leak, use some carb cleaner in a spray can and gently spray the engine. When you find the leak the engine will stumble, check in that area for the leak.

Whistling from engine

This is a symptom of the inlet manifold gasket having a leak. The whistling is air going in through the small leak/hole in the gasket. With the throttle butterfly shut, air is getting sucked in the only way it can.Try tightening the inlet manifold bolts 1st.But more than likely the gasket needs replacing.Hope this helps

Whistling noise when accelerating

you most likely have an aftermarket radio installed
the noise you hear is engine noise, if yo turn your radio off it will go away
this can be fixed by either getting better wiring for your aftermarket radio or by installing a noise filter, you can purchase that at most big electronic stores
