The screen goes fuzzy because the video chip has failed. Since this is an onboard one you will have to replace either the motherboard or the entire pc if you don't know how to do that .

I have a gateway gt4022 running windows xp. When

Probably hardware failure. To test that remove all disks and extra components and try again to boot into BIOS. If you can't then you will know for sure. If you can then take the opportunity to change the boot order and put the cd first and the hd second. Now connect an optical unit and try to boot in a bootable disk, preferably a Linux Live-CD. If you can then the hard disk is dead, replace it.

Try a different monitor (borrow one). If that doesn't work, you need to take it to the shop.

I have a Gateway GT4022 that recently stopped working. When the power button is depressed, the fans will kick over for less than a second and then the system shuts down. It never gets to the BIOS and no...

Power supplies shut off automatically when one of the voltage wires is shorted to ground somewhere. This is why you see the fan kick over for a second and quit. This is probably a bad motherboard.

Gateway GT4022 Motherboard failed

Well, I think gateway is just a computer manufacturer, so if you are still under warranty, you could possibly get a replacement. But before doing anything, and if you are comfortable with doing so, open up the side of the casing, and take a look around, see if any cables seem unconnected.

Power went out the other night while my Gateway GT4022 was on. It won't turn back on now, no lights, no fans...replaced power supply, still same problem...thanks

If the power went out while it was on it may have been given a surge. If that is the case the motherboard is going to need to be replaced. Check the power supply connection on the motherboard if it is discolored then that is the problem.

Gateway GT4022

Google motherboards. XD

Looks like your motherboard is actually pretty good. What do you need to replace it for?

Here's a good website: http://www.tigerdirect.com/
Click motherboards or motherboards with cpu included.
Another website, http://reviews.cnet.com/4566-3049_7-0.html?tag=dir gives you a list of motherboards and where to buy them.
Usually, motherboards under $100 are old or cheap.

If you need an exact copy of the one in your GT4022
this is your motherboard on gateway.com: http://support.gateway.com/s/MOTHERBD/FIC/4006105R/4006105Rnv.shtml
just google that motherboard and you should be able to find an exact copy to buy.
