When your dryer won't start, it could be a number of problems from a broken door latch or start switch to an exhaust duct blocked by lint. It could even be a tripped circuit breaker or blown fuse.

The first step in troubleshooting any electrical appliance is to ensure that it is plugged in and receiving power. While dryer plugs do not come loose easily, it can happen.

For more troubleshooting tips, read Dryer won't start for possible causes, signs to look for and things you can do. I hope this helps!

How to take dryer apart

1) Open the door to the dryer. You will notice that there are two phillips head screws on one side and on the hinge side there two, one through each hinge. Remove all four screws.
2) Take the door completely off, as well as the front face of the machine. You may have to pull on the front sides a little to get it to come off.
3) Now you will notice that there are 6 5/16" bolts, 3 on each side. Take the top one off on each side. You'll notice that these were holding a metal clip that was connected to the top. Once removed the top can be lifted up entirely.
4) Remove the other 4 bolts and the rest of the inner front of the machine will come off. Remember to disconnect any wiring that may restrict you from moving these pieces.
5) Now you'll be able to have access to the idler pulley, blower wheel, motor,

Error code f 40. dryer will not start

F40 code implies a possible loose wiring connection and if there are no loose wiring connections then the user's interface will need to be replaced. I added an image (click for zoom) below with instruction how to access the control board and the user's interface board. The user's interface is part #280157.

NOTE: Disconnect the power cord from the power source before servicing your dryer.

On Maytag dryer model # MDE9316AYA how do I get the top off? One of the fins inside the drum is loose, and I hope I can reach the screws to tighten it up by removing the top, but it won't budge and...

Opening the cabinet of these machines begins with the cabinet top. There are two spring catches located just below the cabinet top that secure it to the rest of the unit. These catches are located towards each side edge. Use a putty knife (or some other thin and flat object) to slide in under the cabinet top to disengage each of the clips. You can now lift up the cabinet top.
With the cabinet top lifted, you will see two screws located inside the top of the cabinet front. Remove each of these screws and lift the front panel to disengage the two clips found at the bottom. As you remove the front panel, disconnect the door switch and any other wiring, taking careful note of which wires are to be reconnected where.

My dryer drum sparks when i push on it

You have loose or shorted wiring in the dryer. Unplug the dryer.Raise the top lid. Remove the screws on the top right and left inside the dryer to remove the front panel. Disconnect the door switch wires and set the panel aside. Reach in under the drum and remove the drive belt from the motor and pulley. Remove the drum. Inspect the wiring visible inside. Remove the rear panel from the dryer and inspect all wiring and thermostats and fuse relays.Remove the terminal cover where the cord connects and inspect all wiring there for broke or loose. Open the control panel and inspect all wires there for broken or loose. Repair any wiring found defective and replace any parts found defective.
